Frequently Asked Questions about the Disneyland Diamond Celebration
UPDATED JUNE 13, 2015

There are a lot of questions that we get asked time and time again about the Disneyland 60th, so we decided to put as many of them as possible here in this post.

What is the Disneyland Diamond Celebration?

To honor of the 60th anniversary of Disneyland opening July 17, 1955, the Disneyland Resort is celebrating with new entertainment, foods and drink, decorations, attraction enhancements and more. This is a huge happening and because it is so big, it has been highly anticipated by Disney fans.

Where does the Disneyland Diamond Celebration take place?

Although the Diamond Celebration is celebrating Disneyland’s 60 years, it is taking place in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure with two new shows at Disneyland and one new show at Disney California Adventure. Both parks also feature special merchandise, food and decorations.

How long is the Disneyland Diamond Celebration going on?

The Disneyland Diamond Celebration began May 22, 2015. It is slated to last 18 month–through November 2016.

Will it be more crowded during the Disneyland Diamond Celebration?

Yes. It will be crowded… all summer and perhaps beyond. Really, really crowded. We do have some tips that can help deal with crowds. Here are some of our favorites.

  • Best shows and rides to visit on crowded days
  • Take advantage of Extra Magic Hours
  • Fast ways to cool down when it is hot at the Disneyland Resort
  • Best spots to rest at the Disneyland Resort
  • Things to do while waiting with a toddler to do a Rider SwitchEverything you need to know about FASTPASS

What makes the Disneyland Diamond Celebration special?

Disney has a lot of really special surprises in store for resort guests. Even Mickey and Minnie have new outfits they will be wearing. One drawis the Diamond Days Sweepstakes in which Disney will be giving away lavish prizes like real diamonds and overnight stays in the Dream Suite.

The new entertainment is a really big deal. Such a big deal, we have put together a special post just for families with little ones so that they can have a realistic idea of how to plan so that they can see the shows with their kiddos. Read our expert tips for families who want to see the new nighttime spectaculars.

Many Disney fans are excited about the more than 500 new pieces of merchandise that will be offered. Folks who cannot make it to the Disneyland Resort to purchase the special 60th anniversary merchandise can contact Merchandise Guest Services to get their hands on the bedazzled souvenirs they can’t live without. (Not all merchandise may be available on that date.)

In addition, Disney has also added some special new touches to two all time favorite Disneyland attractions: the Matterhorn Bobsleds and Peter Pan’s Flight.

We’ve planned our trip July15-18th, to coincide with the actual opening day anniversary. Do you know if they are planning any special celebrations for that day/week?
    Thank you!

Hi Suzanna! That is a great question! They have not released information on specifics for July 17. I will publish the details as soon as they become available!

Will the Diamond celebration be on hiatus when the Christmas festivities roll around? We usually go during Christmas time but are thinking of rescheduling our trip so we can make the Diamond celebration.

That is a great question, Grace. As of right now, Disney has not announced how it will combine the holiday and Diamond Celebration decorations. The plan, as I have been explained, is that the 60th celebration will go on continuously for 18 months (starting from May 2015 when it launched). I have not been told there will be a hiatus. I think you might get double the fun with holiday and 60th celebrations going on.
