Watch out over head, because you’ve never seen cars like this! Lightning McQueen, Mater and many of the Disney Pixar Cars characters you know and love are taking to the sky in the new Cars Take Flight line of toys, books and more. My kids love these toys. Playing with cars of any type is always fun for my boys, but the idea that these cars fly takes my children’s imaginations to an entirely new level.
The Lightning McQueen Hawk has become the HOT toy in our house this summer. With three boys dying to play with it, it rarely idles without a small hand flying it through the air. The Hawk is made by Mattel and retails nationwide for $43.99. Lightning converts from a car into an airplane with wings. While in driving mode, he has driving sounds and phrases and once he transforms into a plane, he reveals rocker boasters, missile launchers and makes sounds and phrases that respond to the child’s movement of the car. The car is recommended for ages 4 and over, but I can see many 3 year olds getting a lot of enjoyment out of this exciting toy.
Cars Toon Mater on the Moon Die Cast Set
Available at the Disney Store and DisneyStore.com for just under $20, this cute set of cars is inspired by the Mater’s Tall Tales episode that takes place on the moon. The set includes Moon Mater, Autonaut McQueen and Impala XIII. These cars are much larger than a “Hot Wheels” or “Matchbox” die cast car and are really durable and fun to play with.
Air Mater and Other Tall Tales
Available nationwide for $9.99, this is a great book that introduces the kids to the stories behind the two toys above. My sons love the book and it’s a an easy read for my second grader. If you have a child who has difficulty seeing 3D movies, do not fret. My oldest son cannot watch 3D movies, as they give him headaches and really hurt his eyes. He loves reading this book and has no problems afterward.
It’s easy for me, as the mom, to go on and on about some these toys. My son, Aidan, asked if he could make videos about them and, of course, I obliged. I couldn’t find my Flip cam, so they might look a little strange, but the content is what’s really important. My 7-year-old likes these toys so much, he asked to make a video–something that doesn’t happen often.
Whether you’ll be heading to the store for fall birthday gifts or thinking ahead to the holidays, these Cars items will not disappoint the little boy in your life. The Hawk and die cast cars are sure to provide hours and hours of imaginative play. In fact, my prediction is that the Hawk will become one of the hot toys this holiday season! It’s really just that cool.

My son is Cars obsessed! He has a Cars room, has had a Cars theme for 6 of his 7 birthdays and if I had to guess has every Car and book from the movie we can find! I know he will love this new line of toys. I would say the favorite character of our family would be Mater!

My 3 year old love McQueen! So far today we’ve watched Cars 2, played Mater’s tall tales on the Wii, put on McQeen underwear and t-shirt, put together a cars puzzle, read 4 cars books, eaten a cars fruit snack and played with all of his Cars toys. It’s been pretty much a typical day at our house. I’ll have to send you a link to the Cars birthday party we had a couple of months ago.
