Pregnant at Disneyland: Which Attractions Can I Ride?

Editor’s Note: This post was updated in August 2021 to include the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attractions

Before I begin this post, let me preface by saying that every single person is different, every pregnancy is different, and you should always consult your physician if you aren’t quite sure if you’re able to ride a particular attraction when pregnant at Disneyland.

My intention for this post is to give you some tips and tricks that our Babes in Disneyland crew uses to gauge whether or not the ride may be too bumpy for your bump and which ones will always get our thumbs up. With this knowledge in advance of your next trip, you can make the most of your Disneyland visit!

Use the Disneyland app

The Disneyland app is such an invaluable resource for visitors on-the-go.  Not only does the app list out every attraction in both parks, if you navigate to the “Accessibility” section of each listing, the app provides the Park’s official advisory about whether expectant mothers should ride the attraction or not.  We’ve heard many of our readers say that they’ve gone on their favorite attractions well into their pregnancy, but I personally heed on the side of caution.

For ease, here’s a current list of attractions that have an “expectant mother” warning (accurate at the time of publishing!):

Disneyland

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Gadget’s Go Coaster
  • Indiana Jones Adventure
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds
  • Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
  • Space Mountain
  • Splash Mountain
  • Star Tours – The Adventure Continue

Disney California Adventure

  • Incredicoaster
  • Goofy’s Sky School
  • Grizzly River Run
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission: BREAKOUT!
  • Radiator Springs Racers

You’ll notice that there are many rides that are somewhat bumpy and jerky that do not include the cautionary warning but may be some you want to avoid.  Attractions like Mad Tea Party, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, and others can make you nauseous, have sudden starts and stops, and might not be the best choice as your pregnancy progresses.  As Lisa mentioned in her Disneyland while pregnant post, use common sense, but you can always check with your doctor as well.

Avoid Lap Bars While Pregnant

There are so many fun attractions to experience outside of the aforementioned list, but a general rule of thumb is to avoid anything that has a lap bar as you progress in your pregnancy.  As your bump continues to grow, it becomes less comfortable to slide into those rides with a lap bar restriction (and usually the lap bar rides mean they are a bit bumpier than others).  We’re talking about rides like Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride or Roger Rabbit’s Car Too Spin.  Use your best judgment for certain rides that may not have an expectant mother warning and don’t have a lap bar, but may have some slight thrills. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean has a short drop, which is manageable during your earlier pregnancy time – but you know your body best, so go with what feels right for you!

Aim for Ease of Access

There are plenty of attractions that would be mild for pregnant mamas, but with a growing bump, it’ll get harder to get in and out of certain rides, especially those that feature tight spaces or bucket seats that are difficult to get in and out of.  Examples of these include the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes, the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, and the Autopia cars.  Make it easy on yourself and avoid trying to climb in and out of those attractions.

Attractions To Enjoy (and they aren’t all rides!)

If you feel like the previous list really limits your ability to enjoy the Disneyland Resort, fear not! There’s still so much to do at the Disneyland Resort, which is often overlooked.

We recommend taking a leisurely Grand Circle Tour on the Disneyland Railroad or enjoy the air conditioning and easy-to-access seats of it’s a Small World.  Other attractions that you can enjoy during your pregnancy include the Disneyland Monorail, the Enchanted Tiki Room, Haunted Mansion, the Jungle Cruise, and even the King Arthur Carousel (they have benches!).  Try something new and explore the different Main Street Vehicles or enjoy the Mark Twain Riverboat or Sailing Ship Columbia on the Rivers of America.  Over at Disney California Adventure, don’t overlook some of the walkthrough attractions such as the Animation Academy, Sorceror’s Workshop, or the Boudin Bakery tour; take a ride on the Red Car Trolley, and you can still enjoy Soarin’ Around the World.

There’s still plenty to see and do while being pregnant at Disneyland and we hope this post helps you navigate the tricky waters of which attractions to avoid and which ones that are still safe for you to enjoy.
