To honor of the 60th anniversary of Disneyland opening July 17, 1955, the Disneyland Resort is celebrating with new entertainment, foods and drink, decorations, attraction enhancements and more. This is a huge happening and because it is so big, it has been highly anticipated by Disney fans.

What makes the Disneyland Diamond Celebration special?
Disney has a lot of really special surprises in store for resort guests. Even Mickey and Minnie have new outfits they will be wearing. One drawis the Diamond Days Sweepstakes in which Disney will be giving away lavish prizes like real diamonds and overnight stays in the Dream Suite.
The new entertainment is a really big deal. Such a big deal, we have put together a special post just for families with little ones so that they can have a realistic idea of how to plan so that they can see the shows with their kiddos. Many Disney fans are excited about the more than 500 new pieces of merchandise that will be offered. Folks who cannot make it to the Disneyland Resort to purchase the special 60th anniversary merchandise can contact Merchandise Guest Services to get their hands on the bedazzled souvenirs they can’t live without. In addition, Disney has also added some special new touches to two all time favorite Disneyland attractions: the Matterhorn Bobsleds and Peter Pan’s Flight.

Suzanna says
We’ve planned our trip July15-18th, to coincide with the actual opening day anniversary. Do you know if they are planning any special celebrations for that day/week?
Thank you!
Lisa Robertson says
Hi Suzanna! That is a great question! They have not released information on specifics for July 17. I will publish the details as soon as they become available!
Laura says
Do u know if the decorations will be up during the holidays or will they be replaced with Christmas
Grace says
Will the Diamond celebration be on hiatus when the Christmas festivities roll around? We usually go during Christmas time but are thinking of rescheduling our trip so we can make the Diamond celebration.
Lisa Robertson says
That is a great question, Grace. As of right now, Disney has not announced how it will combine the holiday and Diamond Celebration decorations. The plan, as I have been explained, is that the 60th celebration will go on continuously for 18 months (starting from May 2015 when it launched). I have not been told there will be a hiatus. I think you might get double the fun with holiday and 60th celebrations going on.
Rosie says
Do you know the exact date the park will begin celebrating Christmas this year?
rachel says
Will the 60th decorations go back up after the holidays?
Lisa Robertson says
Yes. The decorations will be up through next summer.
