Exciting news! The Disneyland Resort has announced that they will extend their annual Lunar New Year celebration to 17 days for 2017!  Look forward to the largest Lunar New Year celebration ever seen at Disney California Adventure between January 20, 2017 – February 5, 2017!

Lunar New Year, traditionally celebrated within Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures, commemorates the moment when both the sun and the moon begin their journey for another year.  This is a celebration my own family takes part in annually, so I’m excited to see how the Disneyland Resort honors this traditional celebration.

The Year of the Rooster will bring traditional food, music and entertainment that signal the start of a very exciting year at the Disneyland Resort.

New Celebrations for 2017

During the day, Guests can enjoy meet-and-greets with Mulan, Mushu, Mickey, Minnie and Chip n’ Dale, all dressed in their best and ready to take part in the fun.  There will be authentic musicians and performers such as Chinese acrobats throughout the park celebrating the festivities.

In the evenings before World of Color, Guests can enjoy a brand-new nighttime water show, called “Hurry Home – Lunar New Year Celebration” which will feature Mulan and Mushu and is inspired by traditional Chinese paper cut-out style animation – with a musical score highlighted by an original arrangement of the music created for the Grand Opening of Shanghai Disney Resort by Academy Award-winning composer Tan Dun (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”). Towering fountains, dazzling lights and a music will converge on Paradise Bay to tell a story of family and friendship.

Three new Asian marketplaces offering foods inspired by Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures.

Enjoy festive decor such as hundreds of ornamental lanterns and visit the New Year’s Wishing Wall, where Guests are invited to add a message for the coming year.  Of course, there will be special Lunar New Year themed apparel, merchandise and gift items just for the 17-day celebration.

This is a wonderful celebration to educate families on the different traditions from around the world, especially at Disney Parks & Resorts celebrates the opening of Shanghai Disney Resort and exciting expansions at Hong Kong Disneyland.
