While we love our visits to Disneyland, we can’t forget that Orange County is also home to America’s first theme park, Knott’s Berry Farm. With spring just around the corner, Knott’s Berry Farm is bringing back their famed Boysenberry Festival, kicking off on March 19, 2016 and running through April 3rd. The festival offers limited time boysenberry foods, live entertainment, and fun activities that also include – what else? Boysenberry pie eating contests!
This year, Knott’s Berry Farm will offer 70 different foods that incorporate their beloved boysenberry – and I got invited to preview of some of the delicious eats you’ll be able to experience if you take your family over to Knott’s during this limited time event.
I’ve rounded up 10 of the must-try eats that I know will make you “berry” full!
The Fun Bun
Take a cinnamon bun, dip it in Knott’s world famous funnel cake batter, and deep fry it and smother it in a decadent boysenberry cream cheese frosting – this is what a Fun Bun is made of.
The Fun Stick
New for 2016, the Fun Stick is the sidekick to the Fun Bun. Take a freshly made slice of boysenberry cheesecake, put it on a stick and freeze it (so it won’t fall apart), then dip that into Knott’s funnel cake batter and deep fry it. This was my favorite item that I tried (I’m a huge fan of cheesecake!)
Boysenberry BBQ glazed chicken wings
A touch of sweetness from the boysenberry BBQ sauce gives these glazed chicken wings a nice, tangy flavor!
Boysenberry BBQ glazed shortribs with rice
Another new addition to Knott’s lineup are these boysenberry bbq glazed short ribs that have been marinated in sauce and thrown on the grill. They are served with white rice and a side of additional BBQ sauce – absolutely delicious!
Dessert Flautas
A simple snack, these dessert flautas have a crispy exterior and nice boysenberry center
Boysenberry Panna Cotta
Also a new creation for 2016, this silky smooth boysenberry panna cotta has a nice crunch added to it courtesy of granola. You’ll find hints of boysenberry jam drizzle as well!
Boysenberry Beer
Cheers! Raise a glass as the boysenberry beer is back on the menu and can be served with a splash of cider if you’re so inclined. You’ll only find this beer during the boysenberry festival, as well as during Christmas at Santa’s Cabin.
Boysenberry Trifle
A delicious vanilla cake topped with a giant scoop of boysenberry ice cream, whipped cream, and boysenberry jam.
Boysenberry BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich
The pulled pork is marinated for hours and this dish is served on fresh-baked boysenberry bread!
Alligator Bites with Boysenberry Aioli
If no one had told me I was eating deep fried alligator with french fries and a boysenberry aioli, I wouldn’t have believed them – but alligator certainly tastes just like chicken!
