Restaurant Review: Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta

July 10, 2011 in All Posts, dining, disney california adventure, disneyland resort, paradise pier by Babes in Disneyland

Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta is my new favorite restaurant at the Disneyland Resort.  Chef de Cuisine Jay Garcia and his team have developed a delicious menu full of lots of flavor, quality ingredients, and attention to detail.

The interior of the restaurant is really big and
beautifully designed.

Beyond the quality of the food is the extra training that has gone in to training restaurant’s Cast Members.  Chef Garcia worked with all of the restaurant’s Cast Members–from the cooks to the bussers and beyond to educated them on all of the food selections and how they are prepared.  Because of this training, the Cast Members I interacted with were extremely knowledgeable about the food and the were able to provide suggestions based upon their experiences.

Pastas
All of the pastas are hand plated on melamine plates and the presentation is beautiful.  You don’t find employees at other theme parks wiping the plates to make sure each dish looks as good as it tastes!  Each of the pastas below costs $9.49.

The chicken and sun-dried tomato pasta is a generous portion.

The spaghetti and meatballs is served with marinara and hand plated for each guest.  The meatballs are made of beef.  If you do not eat beef, you can ask for the turkey meatballs served with the children’s meal (which is also spaghetti and meatballs–just like that served at Pizza Port).

The five cheese ravioli is wonderful.  The filling is rich and creamy and the pesto sauce is delicious.  The entree is topped with pine nuts; if you are allergic, simply inform the Cast Member behind the counter and he or she will ensure you receive a pine nut-free meal.

Pizza
The flat bread pizza at Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta are works of art.  Each pizza is handmade with fresh ingredients.  The sauces are hand “painted” on each pizza with silicone brushes so that just the right amount of sauces goes on.  By hand making each pizza with just the right amount of sauce and toppings, the Disney chefs have made sure they have developed a flat bread pizza that is crispy with every bite–never greasy or soggy at the bottom.

The BBQ chicken pizza is the BEST of its kind I’ve ever had.  It has lots of chicken and just the right amount of bacon so as to not make it too salty.  The BBQ sauce is delicious.

The portobello mushroom and spinach pizza is wonderful.  It has a perfect medley of flavors in every bite.  What you don’t see in the menu description and can see if you look closely at the pizza above is that each pizza is painted with a thin layer of pesto to give it a little extra flavor before it is served up to park guests.

The pepperoni and cheese pizzas are great for kids who may not want the “fancier” BBQ chicken or mushroom and spinach pizzas.  I personally think that the flat bread pizzas are a much better deal than the kids meals–especially if you have more than one child.  The kids’ meal pizza served at this restaurant are the personal kids’ pizzas sold at all of the other restaurants throughout the park.  I’m not a fan of these pizzas.  Click here for my thoughts on what I’ve dubbed “the pizzette.”

Salads

The traditional Italian chef salad is full of fresh, delicious greens and Italian favorites including flavorful capocollo, fresh mozzarella, and marinated olives.

The Boardwalk field greens is the GREATEST salad served at the resort.  Every bite is fantastic with the blue cheese, cranberries, and candied walnuts, fresh greens, and fantastic basil vinaigrette.  YUM!

Seating

Lots of great outdoor seating.
In fact, there’s so much outdoor seating, I imagine that this will be the place to eat on crowded days.  Please note that there is no indoor seating.

Guests can purchase an American
Bud Light or Italian Peroni.

Just another note…

What I love most about Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta is that it is the perfect place to eat for families.  For my family of five, we will probably get a couple of pizzas and then a salad or pasta and eat family style.  Plus, when eating “family style” you get a little bit of everything!  Next time you are at Disney California Adventure Park, Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta is the place to go for a delicious meal with big enough portions for sharing that will help stretch your dining dollars.

I case you missed them, click here for the Paradise Pier dining complex “back story” and my review of Paradise Garden Grill.

I would like to give a very special thanks to Chef de Cuisine Jay Garcia for showing me around Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta and Paradise Garden Grill and sharing with me all of the details that go into opening such an outstanding dining complex.  Congrats to him and his team for opening two fantastic restaurants in Paradise Pier!
