Monday Must Have: ERGObaby Carrier Review

For today’s Monday Must Have, I am happy to share with you a baby carrier that was new to me with baby number three, but a familiar favorite to many of you, the ERGObaby carrier.  I received one two weeks ago and it is simply fantastic.
What makes this product great?
I love a lot about this product.  I love that versatility that allows you to carry baby on your front, hip, or back.  (While I don’t recommend wearing baby on your back while at Disneyland because of the attractions, I can think of PLENTY of occasions not at Disneyland, like the zoo for example, when I have wanted to be able to have my child on my back!)  It is very comfortable to wear–much more so than other carriers I have used in the past.  I’m also a big fan of the elastic bans that act as added protection for baby in the case that one of the clips fails while you are out and about.  The fabric is durable and machine washable.
Why is the ERGObaby great for trips to Disneyland?

  • When traveling with a baby or toddler, being able to board and disembark attractions with your hands free is a key strategy for having a fantastic visit.  Being hands free allows you to easily pull yourself out of attractions and help your other children.  I honestly cannot do Disneyland without a baby carrier.
  • The ERGObaby is great because you can wear baby on your front or side, plus it is pretty darn easy to slip on and off if necessary at the attractions.
  • The little hood/cover that can be snapped over baby’s head for shade.  It’s ingenious!
  • Because of the carrier’s design it is very comfortable for long periods of time.  I wore it on and off during the day when my family and I visited the Los Angeles Zoo and Griffith Park.
Were there any drawbacks?
Perhaps the only drawback (if you can really consider this a “drawback” given the reasoning), is that the carrier is not designed for children to face forward.  There is solid reasoning behind the ERGObaby carrier’s design.  It is in compliance with the findings and recommendations of Dr. Evelin Kirkilionis, renowned human development specialist, who has researched baby wearing since 1985.  According to  Kirkilionis: “Infants in outward-facing orientations can’t turn away from surrounding stimuli. They can’t turn inward toward a parent’s body if stimuli become overwhelming. In this position the baby cannot make eye contact with his or her parent to evaluate facial expressions, social cues, and so forth to make assessment of the situation.”  Makes sense.  In my opinion, when your baby gets older and wants to face forward, it is probably time to put him on your hip or back in the carrier.
I also want to note that if you are using this product with a child under 4-6 months, you will need an infant insert so that they baby is comfortable and safe in the carrier.  

 

The ERGObaby carrier is a fantastic carrier.  It’s comfort and durability make it a must have for parents and babies on the go!

    my Disneyland must have is a tote bag cooler… I found a really cute one at Target and it can fold pretty flat in a suitcase… We like to bring water bottles and fruit to hold the kids until mealtime and cut down on expenses.

    One of my Disneyland must haves is a pair of BabyLegs (leg warmers). They are great for covering arms, too. Especially if they get too much sun or when it starts to cool off and you don’t have a jacket nearby.

    I love the Galaxy Grey! (and I’m a public follower and I’m going to find you on facebook when I’m done commenting).

    I do love the Ergo – I think it’s fantastic for trips in and out of the store, but I LOVE my woven wrap (I use the Bali Mama Gyspy Breeze by Wrapsody) because the baby can face in our out and has several other positions (hip/back/sling). I used one with my 6 month old day in and out at Disney for several days.. it was my lifesaver!

    Disneyland Must Have: Costume!

    Putting the little ones in costumes is such a fun way to spend the day at Disneyland. They really have a fun time with the extra attention they get when dressed as their favorite princess or character.

    My kids are too big for the ERGObaby so don’t include this as an entry. I Just wanted I used another brand for my first child and got the ERGObaby with my second. The difference is just incredible. So much more comfortable on my back and very versatile. With kids 16 months apart I had one not walking or not walking to fast and another I had to chase. The ERGObaby was a life saver.

    Disneyland Must Have:
    A Camelback water bottle + carabiner. It will hook onto almost any stroller, and you can refill it with cool water all around the park.

    Following! I love the Ergo, I have one. I did face my babies forward in it though- I had their legs criss crossed and tucked their bum way down. Usually they faced in, so they were all snuggled close 🙂 Oh my goodness, I love the one with the stars! cara faus at gmail dot com

    I haven’t been to Disneyland with my son yet, but I think a spray-on sunblock and hats are a must! I think a good stroller would be the New Bumbleride 2010 Flite. It’s lightweight and folds up small, but has all the essential features of a full-size (including car seat compatibility!) It’d be a great Disneyland stroller!

    One of my disneyland must haves is Crystal Lite on the go packs. I refill my bottle from the water fountain and add one of these packs. This way the water tastes better and I don’t have to buy more drinks from the theme park.

    I can’t go to a theme park without the stroller and some snacks! Lots and lots of snacks and juice!
    Also, for my older boy, we got him one of the backpack/harness things and that was great for when he refused to hold our hand…

    My theme park must have is babylegs because your LO usually starts out in shorts but it gets cold if you stay late so babylegs let you add a layer without having to change clothes!

    My amusement park must have is one of those little tubes on a rope that seal shut where you can store your keys, money, etc. They’ve saved all my valuables from getting wet at Noah’s Ark many times! And since you can tie them to you, no worries about losing the stuff when you go on rides that go upside-down!

    Disneyland Must Have – a stop at the Blue Ribbon Bakery for a cinnamon twist and a yogurt parfait to share with my husband and 1.5 year old son. It’s a tradition for our passholder family.
