Guest Post from Kelley Tenny who is the publisher of the blog Disneyland Runners.
Who doesn’t love everything Disney and runDisney is no exception. You don’t run, you say? Disney has taken care of that by bringing in U.S. Olympian Jeff Galloway as their official trainer.
Galloway’s method follows a unique program that will have any person running in no time. With intervals designed to each person’s levels, he turns a lot of wishes into reality.
The program is designed to help average people of all skill levels and ages to complete either a half- or full- marathon, a 10K, or to get into running by adhering to Jeff’s run/walk approach to running. This approach advocates establishing a run/walk ratio based upon a runner’s predicted pace per mile that will enable him/her to go the distance while remaining healthy and injury free. The program requires two 30-minute run/walks during the week and a long, group run/walk on the weekend.
The 30-week training program offers participants:
- Group support structure for training.
- Set training schedule.
- Expert advice on running techniques, gear, nutrition, and injury prevention.
- Time-goal driven training and Pace Group Leader opportunities for experienced runners.
The Southern California kick off event was on March 23rd at at El Dorado Park West in Long Beach, but it’s not too late to join in the fitness and fun. The program will culminate in the team running the Disneyland Half in September. Another program will start later in the spring that will assit with completing a 10K or simply to get started with running.
