Ok, so we have all been waiting for the arrival of what I consider to be the second best Star Wars movie ever made, Rogue One.
Because we all can agree that this movie rocks, and if you disagree with me, you are wrong and you will not be reading this review anyways, I am going to get right into what is special about this DVD and what makes it worth buying.
Let’s start with the film itself. If looks and sounds amazing. With all new releases, you can count on the sound and quality of the BLU-RAY to blast you out of your living room. This film needs to be seen on the biggest screen you have, and this might be a reason to go out and get that 70 inch you have been holding off on.
THE EXTRAS:
I will start off by saying that I was initially disappointed when I looked on the back of the box and noticed that there are no “deleted original ending” scenes included. But, that did not stop me from putting the disc and checking out all of the story points and behind the scenes stories you can only get from DVD’s.
The first thing I watched was the chapter called “The Princess and the Governor.” This was amazing as we get to see the process they did with special effects and the live actors while filming the scenes with a 1977 Princess Leia, and Governor Tarkin. It looked amazing in the film and to see the amount of work that went into these small scenes, it really fun.
Next, you can check out all of the short “mini-docs” that cover the backstory of the main characters. There are interviews with the actors, the director and behind the scene scenes with each one. The best one by far is the one on K-2SO. Seeing actor Alan Tudyk walk around in sunglasses and on stilts while performing as the awesome droid, is great and wait until you see the low tech cardboard way they made K-2SO’s head appear to the actors on set. Really good stuff here.
Finally, I loved the story on how the whole idea of Rogue One came to be. I will not give anything away, but it is really surprising and great to know how obvious this idea was for a stand alone movie in the Star Wars universe.
There is also a fun little segment where you get to see a bunch of the hidden call back “Eater Eggs” for all the Super-Nerds out there!
Although there is not as much here as I would have liked, what they did include is well worth the time and the money. So go out and get this DVD because it is something that you will watch over and over alone and with the kids. It is available online and in stores and can be downloaded through Disney Movies Anywhere… or get ’em all and get the DVD and digital download.
If you did not see this film in theaters because it was too much of a hassle, then you should be the first in line to see the movie that all but gets rid of the bad taste of the prequels and completely blows your mind with a totally original film that is filled with call backs, humor and stunning special effects.
May the Force be with you!
