On Monday, July 2, my 8- and 10-year old sons and I made the trek to LEGOLAND California. It was the first time we have visited in about 7.5 years, and I can tell you that A LOT has changed in that amount of time. Not only are my boys a lot older, but there is so much more to do, see and experience. Plus, my boys are REALLY into LEGO, so they were in heaven the entire day.
We were invited to attend and cover the opening of LEGOLAND California’s newest ride, LEGO City: Deep Sea Adventure, on behalf of another blog I contribute to, BurbankMom. We were honored to be among the first to ride it after witnessing the fantastic opening ceremony at which time the park donated $80,000 to Ronald McDonald House.
LEGO City: Deep Sea Adventure is an interactive ride in which guests board a real submarine and go underwater to discover incredible LEGO sculptures and sea creatures. It features more than 2,000 sea animals including five species of sharks, rays (including a southern stingray with a five-foot wingspan) and other tropical fish that swim. All of the new underwater LEGO models are themed around a ship’s sunken treasure and play into one of the coolest elements of the ride–the interactive story. Through the use of interactive touchscreens at each porthole inside the sub, guests can help the LEGO minifigure dive team identify LEGO gems, pearls, gold coins and more throughout the more than four-minute journey.
At the end of the ride, based on how much each guest finds, they will reach one of three levels: Junior, Senior or Master Explorer.
Below is a short video showing how the ride works once you’re inside:

Know Before You Go!
Here are things you should know before heading to LEGOLAND California to ride LEGO City: Deep Sea Adventure:
- The theming is awesome and we loved how the sea life and LEGO sculptures were incorporated into an incredible experience.
- The ride is great for kids of all ages. If they are really young, they will love just seeing the fish and LEGO creations in the water. If they are older, they will love the extra bit of fun provided by the touchscreens. Everyone wins!
- The lines for this ride will be long this summer due to regular summer crowds and it being new. If you have the means to splurge, you can purchase tickets for LEGOLAND’s Reserve ‘n’ Ride program, which helps cut wait times significantly. Learn more on LEGOLAND’s website.
- The line, much like many of the lines at LEGOLAND California, features LEGO building stations that keep kiddos occupied while waiting. I really wish Disneyland would consider something like this for their lines. It would be so amazing.
The boys and I had so much fun riding LEGO City: Deep Sea Adventure and tons of fun the rest of the day enjoying the park. I will be writing up more about our LEGOLAND California experience soon. In the meantime, check out the video of our Instagram story from the day of our trip.
We were provided with complimentary admission to LEGOLAND California in order to write the ride review.
