Last night, I posted about celebrating Jake’s (as in Jake and the Never Land Pirates) at the Disney Soda Fountain and El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California (click here for more information). After enjoying breakfast with Jake, a short Sharky and Bones concert and Jake and the Never Land Pirates episode, we watched the movie Peter Pan as it was intended, in a grand Hollywood theater on the big screen.
There’s something about the music that swells as the opening credits begins that gets me every time. As the movie opened the adults and children in the theater were swept away to London and life in the Darlings’ home. Being it was a theater full of children, you could hear the boys and girls wiggling and chatting in their seats and then something magical happened… Peter Pan’s silhouette appeared on the Darlings’ roof and a collective gasp shot through the theater. There he was, Peter Pan–larger than life on the big screen and for a moment the theater full of toddlers and preschoolers sat still.
Peter Pan has a special magic over kids and I’ve made no secret of the fact that he is a favorite around our home. My son Brandon became consumed with all things Peter Pan when he was two-years-old and we’ve all been on the Pan bandwagon ever since. As a lover of Disney, Peter Pan warms my heart because it is such a lovely story full of magic and whimsy. As a mother of three boys, I suppose it is a bit symbolic of my wish to have my boys be little boys forever.
All three of my boys are still captivated by all things pirate and Peter Pan is a DVD in heavy rotation when it’s the kids’ night to pick a movie. In fact, we had watched our Peter Pan DVD so many times and taken it so many places, it was pretty worn out. Thankfully, the Peter Pan Diamond Edition DVD set will be out in stores (and online) on February 5. We received an advanced copy about a week ago and have watched it at least five times.
Peter Pan is a MUST for any and every Disney fans’ DVD collection. In addition to the movie looking great, it has fantastic bonus features–the kind of bonus features we Disney fans can really geek out over.
Just in case you have never seen Peter Pan (and if you haven’t, don’t make yourself none, just go out and get the DVD set already!), here are some of the memorable clips from the movie.

And if you live in Southern California and want to see Peter Pan on the big screen, there’s still a few days left to catch it at the world famous El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. Click here to learn more about the theater and the Disney films shown.
