Looking for a way you can add just a little more magic to your next Disneyland visit for your babes? These D.I.Y. “Surprise Sacks” are a fun way to make your child’s day at Disneyland extra special.
With a little effort beforehand you can set up to surprise your child all throughout his or her time at the Happiest place on Earth, and even better you could save yourself a little moola compared to buying souvenirs and snacks galore at the parks.
The idea is that each “Surprise Sack” has a certain special time or occasion when the child may open it and get the treat inside. You can create as many or as few surprises as you want; you can give them to your child all at once for them to follow instructions accordingly or you can pass them out one at a time, when the time is right. You can theme this for younger kids and older ones as well, to make it fun for any age. Goodness, if someone did this for me – I would love it!
Surprise Sack Supplies:
- brown or white paper bags, or large envelopes to hold the treats
- a marker for writing directions or labels on them
- decorations (stickers, glitter, etc.)
- treats!
Instruction & Treat Ideas:
- “open when you are waiting for the fireworks/Fantasmic/World of Color”: glow in the dark bracelets/toys
- “open when you are waiting at the front gate”: a small autograph book and pen (there are often characters just inside the entrance)
- “open when you find a pressed penny machine”: 2 quarters and a penny (enough to purchase and press a penny)
- “open when you are in a store”: a Disney gift card
- “open when you are waiting in a long line”: a small container of playdough, a Rubix cube, or some small toy to pass the time
- “open when you feel a rumbly-in-your-tumbly”: any kind of little snack
- “open when you spot a character”: Disney character PEZ dispenser
- “open right before you get on Splash Mountain/Grizzly River Run”: a poncho
- “open before Mickey & the Magical Map”: a small candy treat
- “open when you are waiting for lunch/dinner”: Disney stickers
- “open when you spot (child’s favorite treat)”: the right amount of money so they can go pay for it themselves
- “open when you get to Cars Land”: a new toy Cars car
- “open when it’s sunny out”: new pair of sunglasses
- Don’t forget to theme for holidays!!! ex. “open when you are watching the Christmas parade”: candy cane
I even made the Surprise Sack Labels in a PDF for you to print, cut, and paste like I did.
I also made the Surprise Sack Labels in a Word Doc, that are formatted perfectly for you to print onto peel-and-stick address labels. If you want the cute Mouse Memoirs font I used then you will need to download it here (free Google font).
Not only could the treat bags save you money over buying in-park treats, they amp up the excitement for the kids and keep them entertained! What fun instructions and treats can you come up with?
