Building a new land or even a new attraction at a Disney Park is an incredible feat. Disney Imagineers are tasked with not only creating safe, fun and unique experiences but they have to focus on many important details…like where the holiday decorations will be placed.Dave Caranci is the manager of resort enhancement for the Disneyland Resort and he and his team worked with Imagineers for two years to create the incredible decorations now found in Buena Vista Street and Cars Land. In part one of this three part series on behind the decorating at Disney California Adventure Park,...

Each year, the Disneyland Resort holds a special ceremony to celebrate the official lighting of “it’s a small world’s” Holiday’s brilliant holiday lights. As in recent years, the Disneyland Resort has partnered with Sylvania to bring the magic of the holiday season to life at “it’s a small world,” and this year, the Resort and Sylvania worked the nonprofit Operation Homefront to honor Marine Corps. Staff Sergeant Mark Plummer, who earned a purple heart in Fallujah, Iraq. He and his beautiful wife and darling children helped flip the switch and officially begin the holiday season at “The Happiest Place...

Fun Fact Friday: 3 Special Trees
November 9, 2012 in All Posts, disneyland, Randy, Tips & Tricks for Families
I know people who could spend all day examining and enjoying the tree, plants, and flowers of Disneyland (my father-in-law is one of them). Today I’d like to spotlight three special trees that grow in the park. There is a large tree (pictured at left) in the queue of the Mad Tea Party. This tree actually dates back at least to the 1950’s. I’ve seen pictures of it that reference 1956 or 1957, but it could be from earlier than that. It wasn’t always in its current location, though. It used to be over close to where Dumbo sits today. During...
Quick tips for having fun on rainy Disneyland days
November 8, 2012 in All Posts, attraction tips, Tips & Tricks for Families
Photo by Kevin Crone over at the amazing photo blog, Tours Departing Daily. While planning a Southern California vacation, it’s natural to have visions of sunshine and short sleeves. When days like today bring gray clouds, do not fret; most attractions remain open when it rains. Some attractions with outdoor tracks, parades and outdoor shows may close, but there are still plenty of indoor attractions and activities to stay busy. On rainy days, my family and I board the Disneyland Railroad at Disneyland Park and use it as transportation around the Magic Kingdom. The train stops at Main Street,...
Carolina’s “It’s a Small World” first birthday party went off without a hitch! With the 20+ people that were coming, I would’ve enjoyed being able to have it outside, but it was already too chilly here in Idaho, so we set up inside. Although my sister-in-law made Carolina’s custom party decorations, I still had some work to do the week before. I took the PDFs of the decorations to Office Depot to have them printed on cardstock and while I was there I learned that they could select parts of the file to blow-up – thus the giant small world “castle”...
I’ve made hundreds of visits to the Disneyland Resort over the years, always with my camera at the ready to document each and every parade, holiday, hotel stay, character interaction, and much, much more. My scrapbook acts as a time machine transporting me to special trips and unique experiences I’ve shared with my family and friends. While all of my experiences and corresponding photos are special, none hold as special of a place in my heart as the one below. On this cold, crisp January morning Evan peered through the gates of Toontown anxiously awaiting the land’s opening and...
And…we’re back with part 2 of the Babes In Disneyland Costume Parade! You know how it is as a mom, stuff comes up and I unfortunately am finally getting this up much later than I had hoped. Get ready to get Epic with Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two
in All Posts, disney video games and online, product review
Several weeks ago, I was invited by the good folks at Disney Interactive to a special event at the Disneyland Resort to learn about the highly anticipated video game, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. When the first Epic Mickey came out, Disney fans scrambled to get their hands on the game to experience the Wasteland and find all of the Disneyland references. I was among those fans hoping to find lots of fun nuggets of hidden Disney history. The first version of the game looked cool, but sadly, my gaming skills, which peaked with my ColecoVision‘s Donkey...
