(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Kilimanjaro Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom #disneysmmoms
May 22, 2013 in All Posts, walt disney world
I didn’t know what to expect at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World when I first visited three years ago. As a “Disneylander,” I couldn’t begin to figure out what a Disney animal park would be like. Happily, I discovered what is now one of my favorite Disney attractions of all time: Kilimanjaro Safari. This attraction takes guests into realistic Asian and African ecosystems for up close looks at animals in their natural habitats. For today’s Wordless Wednesday, I wanted to share some of my favorites from the the safari I went on with my family.

Fujifilm FinePix HS50 Digital Camera Review. Hint – It Failed!!!
May 21, 2013 in All Posts, product review
Way back (about a week ago) whenI was still in love with my FujifilmFinePix HS50 digital camera. In expectation of our family’s trip to Walt Disney World for the Disney Social Media Moms conference, I splurged and bought myself a new “big girl” camera for the trip. I took a lot of time searching for just the right camera. I wanted something with incredible zoom, HD video capabilities and the ability to plug in an external microphone for the times I want to shoot video in noisy locations at Disneyland. When I stumbled upon the Fujifilm FinePix HS50 digital...
My thoughts on the disabled tour guide scandal and guest assistance pass abuse.
in All Posts, tips for guests with special needs
I’m not really sure where to begin with this post, so I’m warning you now that I am stepping up to my soap box and I’m going to let loose. While I was in Walt Disney World last week, I received several messages from friends and fans for me to comment on and discuss the news that families of a certain stature feel that it is their right as “the 1%” to see Disney Parks without waiting in line. To accomplish this, they are booking private (non-Disney) guides with disabilities who get guest assistance passes that allow the families to...

In the last week, there’s been a lot of talk about Merida–first with her coronation into Disney’s royal court of princesses at Cinderella’s Castle in Walt Disney World a week ago Saturday and then the creator of Merida came out in protest of Disney’s “makeover” of Merida. I’ve always considered myself a girly girl and love all things princess, but in all honesty, as a mother of three boys, all things princess are typically not on my radar. These Merida issues have given me food for thought and here’s what I think on the matter. I’m not looking for...

“Doc McStuffins: Time for Your Check Up” DVD Review & Giveaway
in All Posts, disney channel, disney junior, product review
Watching Disney Junior grow and change over the years has been quite exciting. My kiddos and I have gotten so much joy out of and each new show and keep coming back for more. One of the newest Disney Junior animated series, “Doc McStuffins,” has my three–year–old hooked. The show plays right to one of her favorite things: her love—well obsession really–for stuffed animals. It’s quite entertaining, and I especially appreciate the message of caring and compassion for others that is woven into each episode. “Doc McStuffins” is the number one cable TV series for kids ages 2-5. It...

Fun Fact Friday: A Multitude of Facts About “it’s a small world”
in All Posts, attraction tips, disneyland, fun facts, Randy, Tips & Tricks for Families
I’ve shared with you briefly in a previous Fun Fact Friday about the Sherman Brothers writing the theme song for it’s a small world. (By the way, the answer to the “For you to discover” question in that post is that the title song was first composed as a ballad. Walt Disney suggested they pick up the tempo, and so we have the song in its present form.) Here are a few other fun facts about this signature Disney attraction. 1. Walt Disney dedicated it’s a small world at Disneyland on May 28, 1966. He invited children from around the...
