July 19, 2013 in All Posts, disney california adventure, disneyland, disneyland resort, fun facts, Randy, Tips & Tricks for Families
Have you seen this little guy or his friends around Disneyland? If you’ve ever bought a snack from one of the popcorn carts, then you may have. These whimsical figures are called Popcorn Animation Dolls, or “Roastie-Toasties,” as they’re called in the book Imagineering: A Behind the Scenes Look at Making MORE Magic Real. Roastie-Toasties have been a part of Disneyland as far back as 1955, but their origins go back at least to C. Cretors & Company in the late 1800’s. They were called Toasty Roasty Men, and decorated the steam engines on peanut roasting machines. When they debuted at...

July 15, 2013 in All Posts, disney california adventure, Jessica, Tips & Tricks for Families, Top 5
I’ve mentioned before that taking little (or big) breaks throughout a long day at the Disney Parks can really make a difference in how you feel, and your energy level throughout the day. I shared some great places to go if you want to give your feet a rest at Disneyland, and now it’s California Adventure’s turn. We both get re-energized, chilling by the front gate. 1. The Front Entrance. Directly in front of the gates, just inside the park – there are some beautifully tiled benches in the shade, and many more benches up and down Buena Vista...

Throwback Thursday: The Carpenters at Disneyland in 1975
July 12, 2013 in All Posts, disneyland, fun facts
I saw this video today and just had to share; its The Carpenters singing “Mr. Postman” at Disneyland in 1975. This is classic and a great trip back in time to see Disneyland 38 years ago. In all honesty, however, I just don’t get it. What does the song have to do with Disneyland?!
This is the movie that every Walt Disney, Mary Poppins and/or Disneyland fan has been waiting for and finally, here it is: the trailer for Saving Mr. Banks. Here’s the lowdown on the film straight from the folks at Disney: When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical...

Almost Wordless Wednesday: The Many Faces of Cruella de Vil
July 10, 2013 in All Posts, characters, disneyland, photography
I’ve been on a veritable character roller coaster with Emma, my youngest, for as long as I can remember. When she was a baby Emma loved the characters but by the time she turned one meeting and taking photos with the characters was a no go. As time has gone on however, Emma has gotten much more adventurous and has been excited to expand their character meet-and-greet horizons. We’ve seen Cruella de Vil sauntering down Main Street many times over the years, but only from a distance as both of my kids were well, to be honest, a bit scared of her. Her wild...
