Fun Fact Friday: The Enchanted Tiki Room

July 2, 2010 in adventureland, All Posts, disneyland, disneyland resort, fun facts, tiki room, walt disney
The Enchanted Tiki Room premiered at Disneyland on June 23, 1963.  It took Walt Disney many years to create the show and bring to life its more than 200 performers.  The Enchanted Tii Room show is led by four famous macaws–Jose, Michael, Pierre, and Fritz.  Animated orchids, toucans, cokatoos, carved wooden tiki poles, tiki drummers, and masks follow the macaws’ lead through songs and even a bit of bad weather.  One of those songs, the Tiki Room’s theme song, was written by the Oscar-winning Sherman brothers.   Legend has it that Walt Disney would frequently stop by and enjoy...

Friday Fun Fact: World of Color 101

June 25, 2010 in All Posts, disney california adventure, disneyland resort, entertainment, fun facts, world of color
World of Color was inspired by Walt Disney’s 1960s television series, “Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color.”  Walt was an entertainment innovator and always took his audiences on exciting, vivid  adventures.  World of Color continues in the same vein.  The show is a major undertaking by the Disneyland Resort.  The production uses one of the biggest show control systems ever built.  The 1,200 World of Color fountains are programmed the way lights are in a rock-and-roll show, using elaborate light boards and switches.  The moving fountains in World of Color reach 30 feet to 200 feet high and can...

My First Trip Alone As A Mommy Of Three

June 23, 2010 in All Posts, attraction tips, babies & toddlers, Big Kids, disney california adventure, disneyland, disneyland resort, Tips & Tricks for Families
Yesterday I did it.  I took all three of my kids to Disneyland…alone…  That’s three boys ages 11 weeks, 2 1/2 years, and 5 years.  I’m not going to lie to you.  It was tough, but really fun.  It was hot and crowded and after pushing “the limo” (our double stroller) around California Adventure and Disneyland yesterday I am admittedly a bit sore.   Here’s the secret on how I actually had fun with my three boys under pretty trying circumstances: I didn’t wait in any lines.  That’s right.  If you are a mom with an annual pass or...

A Very Little Mermaid Post

in All Posts, attractions, disney california adventure, disneyland resort, fun facts, paradise pier, video
Next year, California Adventure will unveil a new Little Mermaid-themed attraction.  Thanks to my dear friend Marcy, I have a sneak peak at the attraction from a recent Disneyland press event.  (You know, the one I could attend because things went horribly wrong…) And if this sneak peak weren’t enough Little Mermaid for you, here’s a special number by the voice of the Little Mermaid, Jodi Benson, from the very same press event. If you haven’t already, please stop by and take my brief reader survey!  For those of you who have already taken the survey, THANK YOU!  Your...

It’s Time To Get Real About My Oh-so Glamorous Night

June 12, 2010 in All Posts, babies & toddlers, Big Kids, disney california adventure, disneyland resort, grand californian
I write a whole lot about fabulous times I have at the Disneyland media events, but there are times (many times) when my family goes to the park and things go wrong.  And sometimes, things go really wrong.  And sometimes, things go really, really wrong.  Now, usually a day when things go totally wrong, we have a meltdown or have to park in the very last row of the parking structure only to find out we forgot the stroller at home or get puked on by one of our kids (and that one has happened too many times). So,...

World of Color Review and Lots of Pictures

June 10, 2010 in All Posts, disney california adventure, disneyland resort, entertainment, fun facts, video, world of color
On Tuesday, June 1, I had the esteemed pleasure and honor to be among the first to see World of Color (WOC) at Disney’s California Adventure.  Less than 100 people assembled that night to see the show’s “dress rehearsal” after a Q and A session and reception at the Blue Sky Cellar.  Up until now, I have not been able to give my review of the show and I’m so happy and relieved to be able to tell you all about it. WOC is a show that takes place in Paradise Bay at Disney’s California Adventure.  The show uses...

World of Color Viewing Part 2: Strollers and My Thoughts

June 3, 2010 in All Posts, disney california adventure, disneyland resort, entertainment, world of color
I featured this picture yesterday, but thought it was just toocool not to post again.  Plus, I am not allowed to post anyother pictures of the show until June 10!  Before attending Tuesday’s event, I asked readers what questions they have for World of Color’s producers. I was asked repeatedly about stroller accessibility and asked on your behalf. If you have not already read my post on HOW to see the show, I recommend you do that before reading this post.Strollers will be allowed in the World of Color viewing area. Like Fantastmic!, guests will watch the show from...

That’s me–glass of wine andno baby!  I was free as could beonly 8 weeks after Baby C’s arrival.I needed a little vino to ease myguilt about leaving my little guy. Last night I attended the World of Color media preview and dress rehearsal.  It was a great night and in addition to watching the show, learning about what it takes to put on such a production, we were treated to samples of the foods and beverages available to guests attending California Adventure this summer.  As always, there were a limited number of online media invited, and I am proud...
