Last night “Big Hero 6,” and the short that preceded it in theaters (FEAST), both took home Oscars at the Academy Awards. If you haven’t seen both of these yet, you must, must, must get it on DVD, Blu-ray or Disney Movies Anywhere as soon as possible. Both are films with a lot of heart and humor. You can get Big Hero 6 (which includes the FEAST short) at a variety of brick-and-mortar retailers like Target or Walmart. It is also available online at stores like Amazon or through Disney Movies Anywhere.
I don’t want to say too much about FEAST because it is so lovely and seeing it for the first time is such an emotional experience, it’s best to know nothing and just “enjoy the ride.” I will say that if you are a dog lover, you will adore it. (And even if you are not a dog lover, as an adult who has changed throughout life, you will appreciate it.)
“Big Hero 6” is an action-packed comedy adventure that introduces Baymax, a lovable, personal companion robot, who forms a special bond with robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada. It is actually based on a Marvel comic and it a really fun adventure that our entire family enjoyed together, and have since enjoyed with the kids and the grandparents since we’ve had it on disc.
The Blu-ray combo pack and Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) editions are packed with extras, including:
- FEAST Theatrical Short
- The Origin Story of “Big Hero 6”: Hiro’s Journey
- Big Animator 6: The Characters Behind the Characters
- Deleted Scenes (Which is always my absolute favorite and includes two alternate openings and more)
- Big Hero Secrets (Easter Egg) – We are huge fans of Easter eggs and are always poking one another ever time we think we see one while we watch the movie the first time. This is really fun.
- Gag Animations – For fun, animators made alternate versions of scenes they were working on and threw them into the mix at review sessions. The directors will present some of these gags for the first time to the public in this piece. (DMA ONLY)
- Beatmax – Check out some of Baymax’s greatest lines auto-tuned like you’ve never heard before. (DMA ONLY)
I received a complimentary copy of the Blu-ray in order to do this review. I was not compensated and opinions are my own.
