While there are a lot of things to consider when trying to decide when the best time to visit Disneyland is for you, in this week’s Ask the Disney Expert post, our experts share our favorite things about visiting the Disneyland Resort during this time of year, known as the the “off” season. For more information, here is a recent post on the pros and cons of visiting during the off season.
My favorite thing about “off” season is the peace and quiet of the park when it isn’t packed. I love being able to take in all of the fine details of the parks–from the architecture to the flowers–that are often overlooked while trying to navigate from one place to the next when it is crowded. I also like the unexpected, one-on-one character experiences my kids have experienced. One of my kids had an impromptu sword fight with the Queen of Hearts in Town Square during one “off” season visit. – Lisa
My favorite thing about the Disneyland Resort during the off season is off course the shorter lines and lighter crowd days. But most exciting to me are the lower hotel rates. When traveling I love staying on property, preferably at the Disneyland Hotel or the Grand Californian. Getting a good rate makes me positively giddy and allows me to stay longer too! – Kendra
I think my favorite thing about visiting during “off” season times is just the feeling of having the park more to myself. Of course it’s never empty, but the ability to take pictures without crowds of people in them, sit alone on a bench and soak in the sound of silence other than Main Street music, and not feeling quite so rushed as I typically do is so nice for a change. It’s quite a different experience, but I love seeing the park in a different light!

I love being able to roam through Disneyland aimlessly during off-peak seasons and experience whatever I’m inspired to experience at any given moment. It is a wonderful thing to be able to be completely spontaneous at Disneyland and not have to worry about length of attraction lines. – Mr. DAPs
My favorite thing about Disneyland during the “off” season is taking a spontaneous trip and not having to worry about crowds. I love it when my family gets their own boat on Small World, or we don’t have to share a flume on Splash Mountain. Short wait times are a huge bonus and the fact that the Dole Whip line goes down threefold is fabulous! – Heather
Aside from the smaller crowds (which is an obvious perk), my favorite thing about Disneyland in the “off” season is the chance to experience attractions that often get overshadowed by their big ticket counterparts. When facades, rides, and attractions go under refurbishment, it changes your Disneyland experience entirely – Vy
My favorite thing about Disneyland during the “off” season is the lack of huge crowds. Contrary to what some people think, the resort is not always packed with people. While there are less live entertainment options, the “off” season is definitely the time to take all those photos with the characters you’ve been wanting and to ride the more popular attractions at the resort such as Radiator Springs Racers, Toy Story Midway Mania! and Indiana Jones Adventure. – Beth
