Disney California Adventure Park’s Summer of Heroes officially kicked-off on May 27th with a major wham, bang, kapow!! The new Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout ride is absolutely EPIC (our experiences and review will be the subject of a future post), the entertainment options are amazing, and most of all the food offerings are perfectly themed and super yummy!
Admittedly, I myself, am not very adventurous when it comes to trying new foods. Luckily, while visiting the parks last weekend I brought along the best palate I know, and my favorite foodie, my 10-year-old son Evan. The frenetic energy in Hollywood Land propelled us forward as we visited several food locations in search of the best Summer of Heroes food offerings. Experiencing the park in this way, almost as if we were at a food truck festival was new to us and so.much.fun.
The list below is a compilation of Evan’s recommendations along with his comments on each:
Groot Bread – This sourdough delight is available for $7.49 and not only makes a delicious treat while at the park, it’s packaged and ready to take home as a souvenir for friends back home! It is available at the cart next to Schmoozies and sells out FAST, so be sure to get it first thing when you get to the park!
“The Groot bread is amazing. The dough was so soft and had the perfect sour flavor. It was the best breakfast ever!” – Evan
Space Outpost Tacos – Space Outpost Tacos can be found at Studio Catering Company (the red food truck) at the very end Hollywood Land. Space Outpost Tacos are chicken street tacos with chopped cilantro and onions.
“They’re delicious from the fresh onion and cilantro to the nice chicken they’re beautiful”- Evan
Obviously Nachos – Obviously Nachos are also available at Studio Catering Company and were a huge hit with Evan and his cousins Carie and Ashlie. At first taste Evan described them as “mmmmmm.” The Fried blue corn tortillas with red pepper cheese sauce, mojo-marinated chicken, chipotle crèma and green onions all pack a tasty punch.
“The nacho cheese is so good and the other sauce is also amazing… really cheesy” – Evan
Angry Little Pudding Cup – The Angry Little Pudding Cup can be found at Award Wieners. This was a favorite amongst our whole group and is described as a rich chocolate pudding dessert with chocolate sandwich cookies, whipped cream, and funnel cake fries.
“The chocolate is so rich and creamy and the funnel cake fries taste like donuts and offer good texture”- Evan
Rocket Fuel Smoothie – The Rocket Fuel Smoothie is a yummy breakfast/ frozen coffee drink that contains chocolate espresso, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup. It can be found at Schmoozies, right in the middle of Hollywood Land. The Rocket Fuel This was one of Evan’s favorites!
“The espresso flavor is strong and offers a good kick, the whipped cream is flavorful and fluffy” – Evan
Donuts– last, but certainly not least are the specially themed donuts! The donuts are offered on a rotating basis at Schmoozies as well. The two available the morning we were there were the Gamma-Sized Doughnut and the All-American donut. The Gamma-Sized donut was absolutely enormous, enough for a family to share, and definitely requires a fork and knife. It’s filled with blackberry and black currant and topped with bright green icing and sprinkles. The All American donut is best described as more of a cronut with apple filling and a streusel topping.
“The donuts were as big as my head with awesome toppings”- Evan
