Families with little ones know that the stroller is an essential item for visiting the Disneyland Resort. During my tenure as a Disneyland mom toting little ones from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland and beyond, I have used not one, not two but TEN different stroller. Yes. ten…and maybe there’s more I’ve forgotten. I have pushed lightweights, heavy duties, tandem and double wides. I’ve pushed ’em all and here are my thoughts on picking the right stroller.
- First and foremost, the stroller needs to be comfortable to push and comfortable for your child to sit in for hours on end. Make sure you won’t be leaning over or straining to push the stroller. Tall parents should invest in a stroller that has higher handles. My husband is over 6 feet tall and we have a couple of stroller that adapt to his height. He used to complain about having to lean over to push our strollers, but now he strolls in comfort.
- The stroller needs to be easy to use. Is the basket easily accessibly while baby is asleep? Can you get your child in and out easily? Does it easily take curbs and bumps in the road? All things that are very important.
- Does the stroller have sufficient storage? I like to think of the stroller as home base for a day at the parks, which means it has to contain everything but the kitchen sink. I not only need it all to fit, but I need it to be easily accessible.
Anatomy of a great stroller. The Safety 1st Aerolite LX Deluxe is one of my favorite strollers of all time and offers an innovative sunshade that’s great for the parks. |
A compact fold is really important for traveling. |
- Avoid ultra lightweight umbrella strollers. These strollers typically have little to no storage, are flimsy and have really low handles–even for average-height parents.
- Strollers that fold compact are great for families who plan on using the Monorail for transportation. Folded strollers can also be brought on to the Disneyland Railroad and the Main Street vehicles if they are completely folded down.
- When evaluating double strollers, consider the weight of the stroller + your kids + all of your stuff. I used the classic double wide heavy weight stroller and a tandem sit-and-stand. Both became really heavy once loaded down with the kids and all of our belongings. My favorite go-to double stroller is the Maclaren Twin Triumph. Although it’s side-by-side, it’s easy to maneuver and get through doorways. My kids can get in and out of it easily and has sufficient storage.
- Make sure your stroller has a sufficient sunshade and fully reclines so your child can take a nap.
- If your stroller has inflatable tires, don’t forget a small bike pump. No one wants a flat tire to ruin their day.
I was recently asked if it’s worth it to bring a double stroller or if it is advisable to bring two strollers and honestly, we’ve done both. One one trip we brought a full-size stroller for the baby and a small umbrella style Maclaren for our middle son. The Maclaren folded up small enough to fit into the storage provided by our full size stroller, but it was a hassle. I definitely recommend going for a double over two singles.
This is our current ride. It’s the Maxi-Cosi Mila. It’s got decent storage, maneuvers like a dream and folds incredibly compact.

I have to say, for our first trip to Disneyland with our son, we took a folding Zooper ‘umbrella style’ stroller that we kicked the back off all day long and constantly got our wheels caught…..we decided to never bring it back to the park. On the next trip, we went ahead and took our BOB Revolution. I don’t think I will ever take another stroller to Disneyland. The fact that it is easy to push (even FULLY loaded in the winter with heavy coats, blankets, etc.), holds a full day’s worth of gear, and is easy to maneuver even in a crowd….. and as taller people, we don’t kick the back which drives me up the wall. I really can’t imagine a Disneyland trip without the BOB.

I recommend the Graco Quatro Duo for a double and the single version is great too! Total workhorse, nice ride, folds easily. I do not recommend the Chicco, because when you fold it (for the tram or bus) the basket is fully exposed and upside down, so you have to completely empty it and carry everything. The Graco folds on top of the storage basket securing the contents. It makes a world of difference when you have to carry your stroller, diaper bag, purse, sleeping baby, her blanket, and hold your other child’s hand while stepping up onto the bus and crawling over people who got on first and took the front seats.
