There’s one thing that I see time after time when I’m at Disneyland that baffles me: the way people dress. I am consistently confused by the clothing options folks choose when they go to Disneyland. To begin, let’s layout the basic facts of a Disneyland trip.
- It’s a long day and comfort is key.
- Guests pay a lot of money to go to Disneyland.
- Guests take a lot of pictures when they go to Disneyland–pictures they will be looking at for, in some cases, the rest of their lives.
All of that being said, I am always dumbfounded by people’s fashion choices. First and foremost, I am always surprised by people who put absolutely no thought into what they’ll be wearing–like the dad wearing the t-shirt he got when he opened his free checking account at First City Bank in 1992 or the mom who wears her cut off sweat pants. Now, I’m by no means saying that a trip to a Disney Park is a black-tie affair, but I do feel like if you are going to be staring at pictures of your expensive day for the next 20 years, why not take it up a notch. Honor your purchase!

Then there’s the commitment to the running shoe. Yes. I agree that comfort is key, but running shoes and belted walking shorts are not the only option (for men or women) when visiting a Disney Park. As I am preparing for my trip to Walt Disney World, I’ve been looking for clothing that is both comfortable and cute–something that reflects who I am not the fact that I’ve “packed it in” for the sake of comfort. And don’t get me wrong, I want to be comfortable, but in my opinion, it is just as easy to be comfortable in jeans and a nice shirt as I am in jeans and an old t-shirt. And then there’s the issue of shoes. Brands like Dr. Scholl’s, Softspots and Born make great, stylish shoes that are extremely comfortable for walking all day AND looking cute.
Recently, Melanie and I hit the Nordstrom Rack to find some cute, comfortable clothes to prove it’s easy to hit the Disney Parks in style, without breaking the bank. We found great jeans and shirts that were comfortable and stylish that didn’t cost a fortune. Outfits that I WILL be wearing in Walt Disney World. I was able to get two outfits (two blouses, tank and jeans) for $120 and love ’em! (And by the way, I’m totally in LOVE with my new Vigoss jeans. Great fit and a great price!)
Want a little Disney bling to take with you to the Disney Resorts? The Nordstrom Rack often carries the Small World line of Mary Blair-inspired Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags–at a deep discount compared to the cost at regular Nordstrom stores.
The identity of this blogger/model has been disguised to protect her innocence. She would only wear a fanny pack for the sake of a good blog post. |
And, if you still can’t resist strapping on a fanny pack…well…they’ve got those too. In leopard print.
If you are a running shoe, walking short, free checking shirt, cut of sweats kind of guy or gal, then rock it and wear it proud. But if you’re like me, bring your sense of style with you on vacation. You’ll be glad you did when you’re showing off your memories on Facebook to all of your friends and family.
Disclaimer: Melanie and I were invited to attend the grand opening of the Nordstrom Rack in Orange, California, just minutes from the Disneyland Resort. As part of the tweet-up party, we were given gift cards, food and shopped while a DJ played music. 🙂

I thought this post was hilarious and at the same time quite true. I never quite understood what people were wearing. Just because you’re now a parent, doesn’t mean you can just let yourself go when it comes to fashion. That goes the same for the ones that aren’t parents. I mean would you want to be caught by your boss wearing those cut off sweats or a stain t-shirt at Disneyland of all places??!!

Maybe I am too cheap, but I would rather save $120 and wear jeans and a tshirt I already have. I’m not seeing how 2 outfits at 60 bucks a piece is a good deal. $120 bucks would have paid for an extra night at our hotel and a few snacks at the park instead.

That diaper bag makes me want to check out Nordstrom Rack!
I’m a running shoes person.. I was a Reefs (flip flops) person until my mid 20’s when my feet decided I wasn’t anymore.. than I moved on to really cute dansko sandals.. that died in the middle of a trip.. I need to try Born and Clarks so I finally look like an adult with nice shoes – it’s a mission for my personal life and park life!

Anonymous – I absolutely see your point. Everyone should wear what they feel comfortable in. I guess for me, I really needed some new clothes and wanted to make sure that what I got (especially because I’ll be attending a conference in WDW), was a bit “stepped up.” I guess the main point I was getting across was if you’re capturing memories, capture ’em in something you love wearing. 🙂 I say if you love rockin’ the t-shirt and jeans, go for it! When you’ve got on the right t-shirt and jeans and you feel good it ’em, it’s great! I have a special t-shirt and jeans selected for my WDW trip too. 🙂
