Dreamers come in all shapes and sizes–big and small, young and old. In the case of Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson, they’re dreams to act came at an early age and landed them in the movie that epitomizes the dreams of dreamers: Tomorrowland. I recently got to sit down with the two actors and find out more about their time working on the film and their own dreams.
Born in England, Raffey, at the young age of 13 already has an impressive credit list including Universal Pictures “Snow White and the Huntsman,” opposite Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, and Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” with Johnny Depp for Warner Brothers.
Thomas, who played young Frank (adult Frank was played by George Clooney), is best known for his breakout role as the loveable Sebastian in the 2010 summer comedy “The Switch,” opposite Jason Bateman andJennifer Aniston, who played his parents. He has also been featured in Lifetime’s police drama “The Protector” and FOX’s smash comedy classic “Arrested Development.”
When asked about how he felt when he got the part to play the a young George Clooney, Thomas explained, “First of all, I felt kind of bad because my brother and I both auditioned for the part, and he was gonna get it, but he got a little too old.”
It’s not easy being an actor–kid or adult–and to be in a movie like Tomorrowland, these two dreamers were put through their paces. In addition to learning their parts, they both went through months of training (two months for Raffey and four months for Thomas) before the movie even started filming. From the rehearsals to the end of shooting, the movie took one year to complete.
“I think the stunts were probably my favorite part,” said Raffey.
In order to train for the part of the movie when Thomas falls from a skyscraper, he spent more than 20 hours training in a sky-dive simulator. “I just really like saying that I have the equivalent of fifteen thousand sky dives,” said Thomas, “…or somewhere around that.”
As for dreams for the future, in addition to acting, Raffey is interested in studying British education in college and Thomas is very interested in attending culinary school to become a chef.
