“Frozen,” the lastest film from the Walt Disney Studios will be out in theaters this Thursday. I recently saw it with all three of my children (ages, 3, 6 and 8) and all four of us loved it and I know that if you are a Disney fan, you’ll love it too.
The story follows the relationship between two sisters–one of which is slated to be the queen and has the unfortunate “gift” of being able to freeze things and make it snow. This power creates a divide between the two princesses, Elsa and Anna, all in the hopes of protecting Anna from Elsa’s dangerous power.
When Elsa becomes queen and accidentally unleashes the freeze of winter in the middle of summer and runs off to live alone in the forrest, Anna teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his reindeer Sven to find Elsa and put an end to the frigid summer. Along the way there is great music, adorable trolls and Olaf, a snowman that is so sweet and warm, he is sure to melt your heart.
There’s a lot to love about “Frozen.”
- It’s not scary: Unlike some of the recent Disney movies, this one is void of any “bad guys” or super intense scenes (like those in Princess and the Frog and Brave) that typically send my three scaredy-cats running out of the theater. While there are “villains” in the movie, they are not terribly scary and thus didn’t make my guys cringe with fear like they are known to do at the theater.
- The music is amazing: Composer Christophe Beck created a score that compliments the eight original songs written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. All of the songs are great, but I guarantee you will be signing “Let It Go” when you leave the theater.
- The characters are deep and lovable: There are times in modern animated movies that I feel like it can be a little difficult to connect with the characters, but this was not the case with “Frozen.” The sisters, trolls, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven are easy to fall in love with and so darn cute.
- The animation is beautiful: While I am admittedly a fan of the art and skill of hand-drawn animation, “Frozen” is very beautiful and the snowy scenes and ice castle and absolutely breath-taking.
- It’s engaging for adults and kids: During some children’s movies that shall remain nameless, I have found myself a little less engaged, but during “Frozen,” I was continuously engaged because of the interesting and endearing characters, great music, enchanting scenery and swiftly moving story.
Want to know the best part?
Before the movie, there is a short called “Get A Horse” that is absolutely the single best use of 3D I have ever seen. This short is absolutely genius and had my kids rolling with laughter. “Get A Horse” is reason enough to spring for the extra cost of the 3D screening. I promise!
