The Indiana Jones Adventure will always have a special place in my heart. When it opened, it was the most advanced attraction of its kind. (The Radiator Springs Racers of its day.) I got to ride it with my family during a Cast Member preview (before they made it less turbulent, I might add), and remember being in utter shock and amazement when we finished riding it. We all applauded and whooped with delight when it was over and it’s a moment I relive every time I ride it.
I recently saw the original commercial for the attraction posted online and I was taken back to the excitement we all felt about this new and innovative attraction.
Before this attraction opened to the public, there was a huge celebrity party attended by virtually everyone in Hollywood. My guests for the day was Dean Cain and some of his friends (this was the era of Lois and Clark, by the way). Dean was one of the nicest people I ever took around Disneyland. He was very kind to me and introduced me to everyone he knew at the party. He was the ONLY guest I ever took on tour that got up and got me something to drink and didn’t expect me to wait on him like a waitress. He was a class act. We must have gone on the ride five (maybe more) times in a row. It was an amazing day.
Many Disneyland guests do not realize that the “Maraglyphics” on the walls of the attraction queue can be decoded. Above and below are decoding cards that were passed out in the 1990s–the one below being from the attraction’s opening. If you click on them, you can print them out for the kids so that they can have a new adventure during their next visit.
Do you have any favorite memories of the Indiana Jones Adventure?

When I got assigned the tour, Wendy, I was in an office behind City Hall. I swear that guests could hear me scream out on Main Street!
