There’s something about the music that swells as the Peter Pan opening credits begin that gets me every… single… time. My son 10-year-old son Brandon became consumed with all things Peter Pan when he was two-years-old and we’ve all been on the Pan bandwagon ever since. As a lover of Disney, Peter Pan warms my heart because it is such a lovely story full of magic and whimsy. As a mother of three boys, I suppose it is a bit symbolic of my wish to have my boys be little boys forever. All three of my boys are still captivated by all things pirate and Peter Pan is a DVD in heavy rotation when it’s the kids’ night to pick a movie. In fact, we had watched our Peter Pan DVD so many times and taken it so many places, it was pretty worn out. Thankfully, the Walt Disney Signature Collection edition of Peter Pan is available now and my kids can continue living the magic over… and over… and over again.
The Signature Collection edition offers over two hours of classic bonus features plus never-before-seen extras, including the latest installment of “Stories from Walt’s Office,” which explores Walt’s love of flying and the company planes; a nostalgic reunion between Kathryn Beaumont (the voice of Wendy) and Paul Collins (the voice of John); and new “Oke” renditions of the classic song “You Can Fly” and deleted song “Never Smile at a Crocodile” accompanied by on-screen lyrics and the film’s unforgettable animated characters.
Now that my kids are older, they LOVE all of the film extras they can watch. We are huge fans of the Movies Anywhere app and my kids will watch all of the extras for hours on end. They are perfect for traveling this summer. Some of our favorite extras on this Peter Pan edition include:
- You Can Fly: The Making of ‘Peter Pan’ – A making-of video of the 1953 Disney classic, “Peter Pan.”
- In Walt’s Words: “Why I Made ‘Peter Pan’” – Based upon an article written by Walt Disney retold as a dramatic recreation.
- The “Peter Pan” Story – An original featurette for the film created in 1952.
- All of the deleted songs and scenes (the songs that were cut are just as good as the ones that made it into the movie).
Just this trailer for the Signature Collection edition is enough to form a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.
If you don’t have Peter Pan in your video collection, now’s the time to grab it for your family. The digital version is available now and the Signature Collection edition DVD/Blu-ray will be available June 5! Click here to order it from Amazon!
I was supplied a complimentary DVD/Blu-ray set in order to do this review. The link above is an affiliate link. All opinions, gushing and misty eyes are my own. I truly adore Peter Pan and wish my boys and I could live in Never Land forever.
