In January of 2010, my parents, Rodney and Kay, came back out to California to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. My wife, Faye, and I spent a week with them celebrating. We had times with other family, a day at Sea World, and of course, two days at the Disneyland Resort.
There were countless special memories during that week, but one of my absolute favorites was while we were at Disney California Adventure.
From the day Turtle Talk with Crush, in the Animation Building, opened–July 15, 2005, in case you were curious (sorry, I can’t help myself)–we have loved Turtle Talk with Crush. My only must-sees on every visit to Disney California Adventure are Soarin’ Over California and this show. There’s a lot more there that I enjoy, but these are not-to-be-missed.
Turtle Talk with Crush is a “Living Character” show, where the Disney character actually interacts in real-time with the audience. I’ve seen Crush blush, heard him name all 65 of his kids, and call for Security while hiding behind a rock when he asked a child what his favorite food was and the child responded, very firmly, and matter-of-factly, “Meat.”
On this particular January day, we took my parents to see Crush for the first time. Thanks to some Disney magic, which was in abundance those two days, Crush decided to talk to my Dad. I could tell you all about it, but here’s the video instead.
You can probably see why it’s such a special memory for me.
I strongly encourage you to check out the Animation Building any time you go to Disney California Adventure, and while you’re in there, make time to visit Crush. Every show is at least a bit different, and always fun. (By the way, when the host says you can ask Crush “What’s the meaning of life?”, he means it. I should know…I’ve done it.)
