Disney Junior has announced a brand new television show that Disneyland-loving moms and dads will undoubtedly be excited to watch with their kiddos: “Miles from Tomorrowland.” The show will be an intergalactic adventure series that follows the explorations of a young boy named Miles and his family – mom and ship captain, Phoebe; mechanical engineer dad, Leo; tech-savvy big sister, Loretta; and best friend pet robo-ostrich, Merc. Together, they explore new galaxies filled with peculiar aliens, space-age vehicles and high-tech gadgets, taking young viewers and their families on a futuristic journey designed to fuel kids’ natural interest in space and at the same time reminding them of the importance of what lies close to home – the family bond.
The show premieres Friday, February 6 on the Disney Channel (9:00 a.m., ET/PT) and will launching with four back-to-back episodes. The show is Each show incorporates unique space and science facts into the storylines that chart the outer space missions of young adventurer Miles Callisto and his family as they help connect the galaxy on behalf of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. (Could we be more in love the Disneyland/Walt Disney World references?)
As with all Disney Junior programming, “Miles from Tomorrowland” is guided by an established curriculum that nurtures multiple areas of child development: physical, emotional, social and cognitive; thinking and creative skills as well as moral and ethical development. “Miles from Tomorrowland” is a slight departure for Disney Junior in that it is designed to inspire young children’s interest in space, science and technology by introducing them to the exhilarating world of space exploration. Each episode features a space or scientific fact that inspires the storyline and encourages interests in the STEM areas of learning. Although other shows have dabbled in STEM concepts, this show is really making science first and foremost–which in my opinion is a breath of fresh air for the channel. As with all Disney Junior programming, this show is backed by experts who have carefully planned its curriculum with specialized, ongoing input from space, science and technology experts from NASA and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the Space Tourism Society and Google.
