Gnomeo & Juliet was released on DVD on May 24. This delightful movie takes place in the secret world of garden gnomes set against a soundtrack of Elton John’s classic music. The characters are voiced by Emily Blunt, James McAvoy, and sir Michael Caine. The film was directed by Kelly Ashbury, the director of Shrek 2. It is rated G and appropriate for babes of all ages.
Gnomeo and Juliet is the story of gnome families from neighboring, feuding homes–much like that Shakespearian story of old…without the super sad ending. The gnomes in each of the families are in constant competition to have the best yard, have frequent lawn mover races and threaten to attack their enemies with great evils… weed killer In the midst of the oh-so-serious competition between the families there are some really darling scenes, like the one below.
The gnomes are so cute and funny, but my favorite character is the flamingo lawn ornament. He has a sweet, sad backstory, yet is very funny and quite the scene stealer. The video below shows his first appearance in the movie.
And of course, I must mention that not EVERY song is Elton John. There is a scene in the movie that Disneyland fans will LOVE. It features a catchy tune by the Sherman brothers that is sung by some of my favorite feathered friends in Adventureland.
Gnomeo & Juliet is a great movie that is light and fun for summer viewing. It’s great for car trips or those super hot summer afternoons when it’s just way too hot to go outside. It can be purchased now at major retailers.
