~ All in the Golden Afternoon
Disneyland has so much that’s unique about it–the architecture, the detailed storytelling, even the music. Perhaps one of the most often taken for granted is the landscaping. There are several articles that could be written about Disneyland’s plants and flowers (“Agrifuture” definitely needs its own), but today we’re going to look briefly at one specific flower: The Disneyland Rose.
In 2001, the horticulture team began looking for a rose unique enough to be identified with Disneyland for the 50th anniversary coming up in 2005. They looked at hundreds of floribunda roses (because of their effectiveness in landscaping) and eventually found what they were looking for through a company named Jackson and Perkins.
The Disneyland Rose has wonderfully vibrant orange, pink, copper, and apricot blossoms, and a delicate fragrance, and it’s disease-resistant so it flourishes year after year with proper care. This spring, be on the lookout for them throughout the park, including near Dumbo, by the Rivers of America, in New Orleans Square, and more.
Oh, and if you’d like a Disneyland Rose bush of your very own, you can buy them here.
For you to discover: When you come to Disneyland, what is the very first place you can see the Disneyland Rose?
