Fun Fact Friday: A Collection of Disneyland Christmas Facts

December 14, 2012 in All Posts, christmas, disneyland, fun facts, holidays, Randy, Tips & Tricks for Families by Babes in Disneyland

Right in the middle of the holiday season, here are some fun facts about Disneyland at Christmastime.

  • There are 2,365 ornaments on the Christmas tree on Main Street, U.S.A. and 79,000 ornaments all throughout Main Street.

  • Carolers first appeared at Disneyland during its very first Christmas, December of 1955. A group of 12 Dickens Carolers (from the University of Southern California), performed throughout the park.

  • The first evening Candlelight Processional was held in December of 1958, a choir proceeding down Main Street to the Central Plaza (also known as the Central Hub, where the Partners Statue is today). They performed a full concert there with the Dickens carolers singing from the balcony of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Celebrity narrators were added in 1961.

  • Haunted Mansion Holiday opened October 3, 2001. The huge “ginger-dread house” in the ballroom is different each year–and it’s made from real gingerbread and icing! Also in the ballroom stands a dead Christmas tree, with a single live branch at the top.

  • The largest Christmas Tree in Disneyland is in Town Square. The smallest is at Storybook Land Canal Boats.

  • There are 200,000 Christmas lights in the trees, hedges and topiary surrounding “it’s a small world” Holiday. Another 50,000 lights are on the facade.

For you to discover: Who was the very first Candlelight Processional celebrity narrator?

You can read more from Randy on his blog, Faith and the Magic Kingdom and listen to his unofficial Disney podcast, Stories of the Magic.
