Has Tsum Tsum fever hit your house? It surely has hit mine! Every iPad and iPhone we own is loaded with the Tsum Tsum app, my daughter has an ever-growing collection of the adorable stackable plush, and we’ve always got our eyes open for new products (I’m currently on a major mission to find the new Tsum Tsum Lip Smackers) . The first Tuesday of each month has been dubbed “Tsum Tsum Tuesday” by The Disney Store and on Social Media and in honor of the first Tuesday of December we’re coming to you with a guide to all things Disney Tsum Tsum.
What are Tsum Tsums?
The word Tsum comes from the Japanese word “tsumu” which literally means “to stack.” Tsum Tsums are a line of stackable plush created as a companion to a popular mobile app that was released in Japan in 2013. The plush and characters featured in the app resemble popular Disney characters. Since its release in 2013 the app and the characters have become extremely popular and are now played and distributed worldwide.
Tsum Tsum App
The Tsum Tsum app is a puzzle game whereby players match/ connect characters to collect points and coins. Each of the Tsums has a different skill and allows players to customize their experience. Players can compete with family and friends for high scores and collect as few or as many Disney characters as they’d like. Some of the characters include The Fab 5 (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, etc.), Disney Princesses (Elsa, Anna, Ariel, etc.), Pixar characters (Mike, Sully, Lightning McQueen), Winnie the Pooh Characters (Winnie the Pooh, Roo, Christopher Robin, etc.), My current favorite and go to character is Bumble Bee Pooh, my daughter refers to him as my “homeboy,” and I’m thinking that she’s right since he recently led me to my all time high score of 3.3 million. Tsum Tsum Plush
The official Tsum Tsum plush toys are sold in the US at the Disney Store and Disney Resorts (both Disneyland and Walt Disney World). The Disney Store has dubbed the first Tuesday of every month Tsum Tsum Tuesday. It is on this day that a new line of Tsums is released. The release causes quite a flurry of activity online and in stores, with the Tsums selling out quickly at both. Target stores also carry a line of Tsum Tsums (and Tsum Tsum-themed clothing and decor), and while not identical they are similar to those found at the Disney Store and are often a bit easier to obtain. Currently, there are four different plush sizes: mini, medium, large, and mega. The prices of the plush characters range from $4.95 (mini) to $99.95 (mega). Disney recently released a Tsum Tsum monthly subscription service. For $24.95 a month subscribers receive never-before-seen small and mini tsum tsums directly to their door each month.
As the Tsum Tsum craze increases in popularity so too does the merchandise available and options within the mobile app. Are you a tsum tsum plush collector or do you play the mobile app? If so, we’d love to hear from you. What’s your high score? Who is your favorite plush character? Be sure to leave a comment below or on the Babes in Disneyland Facebook Page.
