This year, the Disneyland Resort has extended its annual Candlelight Procession from two nights to 20 nights with only the two first nights of the event being by invitation only.
The Candlelight Procession is held in Disneyland’s Town Square, and started in 1958 by Walt Disney as Disneyland’s annual Christmas card to special invited guests and park guests lucky enough to grab a spot along the outskirts of Main Street hours before the show began.
The Candlelight Procession is tough to put into words. It features approximately 600 singers–including Disneyland Cast Members and carolers from local schools and churches selected to participate–who carry electric candles in a beautiful procession up to the Disneyland train station. The singers are accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra, bell choir, two soloists, and a celebrity narrator who reads the story of Christmas. Many guests are surprised by the religious nature of the program, but even those who are not particularly religious are moved by the beauty and majesty of the event.
According to the Disney Parks Blogs, this year’s narrators are as follows:
Dec. 1-2: Dennis Haysbert (actor)
Dec. 3-5: Kurt Russell (actor and Disney Legend)
