Coming and Going

With yet another announcement this week about a Disneyland Resort staple going and a new attraction coming to take it’s place, it seems like a good time to lay out a map of what and when things are going and coming so we can all make our visiting plans accordingly! Like Walt himself said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” And it seems like there is plenty of that going around because there is just so much change is happening at the Disneyland Resort right now between the Pixar Pier / Pixar Fest newness and now the Bye-Bye Bug’s Land / Hello Marvel Super Heroes Land (actual name TBD)!

Here’s what we know about what is Coming & Going this year and beyond:

  • GOING: “a bug’s land”

A Bug’s Land isn’t going away until late summer (exact closing: TBD) although “It’s Tough To Be A Bug” is gone as 780w-463h_032018_marvel-land-announcement-1of 3/19/18. But this land won’t just be getting a refurb, or a rethemeing, it will be completely removed to make room for…

  • COMING: Marvel / Super Hero themed land (official name TBD)

The D23 website shares that “Beginning in 2020, guests will be able to immerse themselves in the Super Hero universe at Disneyland Resort, as the evolution of Disney California Adventure park continues. The Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man and the Avengers will assemble in the new land, which will be anchored by the popular Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, in the adjacent space currently occupied by “a bug’s land.”

  • COMING: Pixar Fest including Paint the Night & Pixar Play Parade

For the first time ever, Disneyland Resort will hold Pixar Fest – a celebration of friendship and beyond that will sapf47697092-768x432run from April 13 through September 3! Pixar Fest will include a new fireworks show at Disneyland, the return of two favorite parades as well as the brand new Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure, and new decor, atmosphere entertainment, merchandise, and special Pixar themed food and beverages will be found throughout both parks.

Comings & Goings at the Disneyland Resort

Coming back in conjuction with Pixar Fest are two favorite parades: Paint the Night, which ran previously in Disneyland will be reappearing across the way in DCA featuring a new Incredibles float (coming 4/13/18); and Pixar Play Parade will also be making a comeback in it’s original park (coming TBD/2018).sfkghkdhr7867893-768x988

  • GOING: Paradise Pier

It won’t be completely demolished, just gone as we know it to refurbishment and re-theming – this will include the boardwalk games, shops, and quick service/dining locations of Paradise Pier (gone 1/8/18).

  • COMING: Pixar Pier

All of those games, shops, and food stops will still be there but will be completely redone to fit the Pixar theme and from some pictures Disney shared, they look like they will be ah-mazing (coming 6/23/18).

  • GOING: California Screamin’, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, King Triton’s Carousel

Again, these key attractions of the Pier aren’t going to be made into rubble, just gone down for a refurbishment for jsdgsv-768x433the next few months and reborn as Pixar updated rides (gone 1/8/18).

  • COMING: Incredicoaster, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, and Jessie’s Critter Carousel

The updated roller coaster – to be called the Incredicoaster will soon be based off of the “Incredibles” movies of which the sequel is opening June 15th (coming 6/23/18), Mickey’s Fun Wheel will be re-themed with Pixar characters on the gondolas (coming 6/23/18), Jessie’s Critter Carousel will feature Jessie’s critter friends inspired by “Woody’s Round-Up” from “Toy Story 2”  (coming TBD/2019).

  • GOING: Ariel’s Grotto & Cove Bar

These two areas are saying farewell to their single lives so they can join together as one fantastic dining location (going April or May/2018).

  • COMING: Lamplight Lounge

This new unified restaurant will serve up California casual gastro-pub cuisine and unique signature cocktails, as well as a fantastic view of the of the waterfront from the upper and lower stories – and don’t worry, the lobster nachos will be there too (coming 6/23/18).

  • GOING: “Remember… Dreams Come True” Fireworks Spectacular

The beloved fireworks show that was originally created to celebrate Disneyland’s 50th anniversary has been making a comeback recently, if you love it as much as I do you’ll want see it soon before it’s gone again (going 4/8/18).

  • COMING: Together Forever – a Pixar Nighttime Spectacular

The Disney Parks Blog describes the new nighttime show as “The stories of “Together Forever” will come to life through projections on iconic park locations: Sleeping Beauty Castle, the water screens of the Rivers of America, the façade of “it’s a small world” and the buildings of Main Street, U.S.A. This nighttime spectacular will even feature Buzz Lightyear and the house from “Up” flying over Sleeping Beauty Castle!” (coming 4/13/18).

  • GOING: Aladdin’s Oasis

Lately this little hidden gem in between the Jungle Cruise and the Tiki Room in Adventureland was simply a quiet spot to sit and rest, or sometimes find a character or two, but perhaps unbeknownst to many much of Aladdin’s Oasis has been boarded off for years, but it’s all going away now, and for good reason. (gone 2018 – it appears the Companion Restroom in his area will remain open, for now at least)

  • COMING: The Tropical Hideaway

Finally, Adventureland will be getting their own sit-down dining location! It sounds like the perfect thing for the typically crowded land, with the perfect theme to fit in with it’s neighbors. (coming TBD)
