If you’re looking for a truly unique character dining experience look no further than Storyteller’s Café, located at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Chip ‘n Dale’s Critter Breakfast offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a yummy meal, in a relaxed setting, while meeting some of Disney’s most beloved woodland characters.
In keeping with the American Craftsman theme of the Grand Californian- Storyteller’s Café’s décor is ornate – with beautifully decorated stained glass, carved wood tables and chairs, and rich upholstery. Hand painted murals, literary quotes and phrases, and ornate wood carvings carry the storytelling theme throughout. The buffet is located in the heart of the restaurant and features elegant glass and copper detailing, and tiled murals.
The fare at Storyteller’s Café is among the best you will find at the Disneyland Resort, offering a unique fusion of elevated comfort food with California Cuisine. Diners have the option of choosing the breakfast buffet or ordering from the menu. The buffet offers many breakfast favorites including: cold cereal, fresh fruit, eggs, caramel French toast, hash browns, breakfast pastries, and made-to-order omelets. Of course what would a character breakfast be without the character breakfast favorite – Mickey Mouse shaped waffles? While not on the buffet line, Mickey waffles are included in the price of the buffet and can be ordered at any time during the meal. The breakfast menu is an extension of the items offered on the buffet line with several tasty additions. Most notable are the California Omelet, Banana-Stuffed French Toast, Huevos Rancheros, and Grand Steak & Eggs.
As opposed to some of the other character dining experiences, there are generally fewer characters to meet at Chip ‘n Dale’s Critter Breakfast however, I’ve found the interactions with the Cast Members and characters to be among the best, and most satisfying of all of the character dining experiences. Chip ‘n Dale, along with several of their woodland friends including: Meeko (Raccoon from Pocahontas), Turk (Gorilla from Tarzan), Koda and Kenai (Bears from Brother Bear) circulate through the dining room visiting each table to sign autographs, take photos, and interact as much or as little as each guest would like. If you are travelling with young children some of the characters might seem a bit large and/ or intimidating, especially if they aren’t familiar with the movies in which they appear. If any or all of these characters are unfamiliar to your children consider watching the movies in advance or searching the internet for photos prior to your reservation to familiarize your child with the characters with whom they may interact.
