Mark Twain Riverboat taken from Tom Sawyer’s Island. |
When the Mark Twain Riverboat was built, it was the first time a paddle boat had been constructed in the United States in fifty years. The decks of the ship were built in beautiful Burbank, California, the home of the Disney Studios and the original location where Disneyland was to be built. The hull of the ship was built some 35 miles away in San Pedro, California. When they ship parts were brought together in Anaheim, they fit perfectly.
The Mark Twain’s first voyage was indeed a memorable one. Taking place four days before Disneyland opened on July 13, 1955, the first trip along the Rivers of America was also a celebration of Walt and Lillian Disney’s thirtieth wedding anniversary.
