A classic parades is coming back, a beloved ride is getting a makeover, and attractions long closed will reopen this year – what’s old is new again at Disneyland!
1. The Main Street Electrical Parade –
The Main Street Electrical Parade is making a grand and colorful return to Disneyland on January 20th (special premiere on the 19th)! This classic parade, a childhood favorite of many of us “big kids”, will be making it’s way down Disneyland’s Main Street once again while the Paint the Night Parade gets a much needed refurbishment. From January through June 18th, 2017, this is a limited time opportunity to share the lights and magic of the “Baroque Hoedown” with your little ones!
2. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout –
We said a tearful goodbye to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror recently, but this summer we have something new to look forward to: Disney California Adventure is taking their first step into entering the Marvel universe by making over the classic attraction into a rocking new cosmic adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy team. This major update will transform the entire structure Tower of Terror structure and “guests will experience multiple, random and unique ride profiles in which the rise and fall of the gantry lift rocks to the beat of music inspired by the film’s popular soundtrack,” according to DisneylandNews.com.
Much of Disneyland has been under tarps or temporarily closed down for the last year to make room for the new Star Wars land, and this summer we will get to revisit these attractions with all of their fresh new updates!
3. Return of the Rivers of America –
Although the Mark Twain Riverboat was still open to walk on and explore, there have been no boats wading through the Rivers of America for the last year including the Sailing Ship Columbia, Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes, and the rafts to Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island as well as the Mark Twain. But finally the restructuring of the Rivers of America will be complete and the water craft will reopen, with nice refurbishments to boot. Guests will get to see the new river layout and explore Tom Sawyer Island once again.
4. Fantasmic! –
With the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island open once again, Fantasmic can finally return as well! Fantasmic was already due for a tune up and the changes in the river layout also called for some reworking of the current Fantasmic show, so hopefully will all the downtime we can expect a few shiny new surprises when it reopens this summer.
5. Return of the Disneyland Railroad –
All aboard! One of our favorite attractions at Disneyland is returning to delight of children and tired parents everywhere. When this attraction reopens we will get to see how the layout of the train tracks have changed to work with/around Star Wars land and the new Rivers of America format. Weary legged or wet and rainy Disneyland guests have sure missed this relaxing and pleasant ride around Walt’s Magic Kingdom.
