The mailbox mystery of Buena Vista Street has been solved!

August 29, 2012 in All Posts, buena vista street, disney california adventure, disneyland resort, fun facts by Babes in Disneyland

Shortly after Disney California Adventure Park opened, I posted about the mailboxes in my new favorite spot to sit and people watch. (Click here for the article.) Located on Buena Vista Street is an apartment building facade with a covered porch area and stairs perfect for watching guests as they enter the park. The building features mailboxes for the building’s residents. After researching the names, I was able to come up with the origins of three out of the four names on the boxes. (And we have gotten confirmation that these are correct.)

Eddie Valiant, the private investigator and main protagonist from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”.

Theodore Ogelvie, the bumbling, loveable character played by Don Knotts in the “Apple Dumpling Gang” series of movies. This is my personal favorite, because I kind of have a secret crush on Barney Fife.

A. “Peevy” Peabody from “Rocketeer,” the mechanic who helps Cliff with the rocket pack.

The fourth name, S. Yoshiwara, was a mystery. That is until the Babes In Disneyland Investigative Team (aka Randy Crane and me) set out on a mission to find out who the mystery mailbox “belonged” to. Together we asked some of the biggest Disney experts around. And when I say big, I mean BIG! No one knew the answer. But Randy, being the Disney sleuth and brain that he is, dug deeper and got the answer. And not just a simple answer, but an official answer that has been verified by Walt Disney Imagineering.

“According to the set decorator for Buena Vista Street, the fourth name is actually the name of a former Disney Cast Member who passed away at a young age during the Buena Vista Street completion. Because of how much she loved Disney, and that she would never get to see Buena Vista Street, she is being remembered like this so she will always have a home there.”

How great is this?! Now I love my new favorite spot even more.
