The Disneyland Omnibus: A Disneyland first timer’s driving tour guide

May 10, 2017 in All Posts, attraction tips, attractions, babies & toddlers, Big Kids, disneyland, disneyland resort, main street by Lisa Robertson
Take a ride aboard the Disneyland OmnibusI have calculated that I have been to the Disneyland Resort more than 1,100 days when I estimated my visits as a child, time as a tour guide and visits for fun while in college and with my own children.  And in all that time, believe it or not, there are still new things for me to discover.

One such attraction I had never experienced until VERY late in the game was the Omnibus. Considered by most to be an A-ticket attraction,* the Omnibus drives guests on a one-way or round-trip tour of Main Street.  Before boarding this attraction with my son for our maiden voyage, I was of the opinion that it couldn’t possibly save me time getting down Main Street and not worth riding.  I was wrong…wrong…wrong.

Riding aboard the Disneyland OmnibusThe Omnibus is perhaps one of the most underrated attractions in the park.  Once aboard the bus, guests are treated to a mini-tour of Main Street’s best by the knowledgeable driver–including facts about the park, history, and tips like the free coffee refills at the Market House. As an added bonus, the Omnibus really does save a lot of time walking up Main Street to Sleeping Beauty Castle–especially on crowded days. Best of all, little ones LOVE it–especially getting to sit on the upper deck…without a car seat.  Families can bring their strollers aboard if they are fully collapsed (the strollers…not the family, although you will likely feel like you’ll want to collapse after a long day at Disneyland!). Wheelchairs must be collapsed as well.

Make sure to board the Omnibus on your next visit.  You’ll be so glad you did!

*From opening day through the early 1980s, Disneyland guests purchased coupon books for the attractions.  The books featured A through E coupons (in the early 80s guests could also purchase Magic Key Coupons good on all attractions) with E’s being the most popular attractions and A coupons being good for the less popular attractions.  Today, complete books that are not missing any of their coupons or their admission ticket are still good for admission to Disneyland, but are likely worth more to collectors. If you have a complete book and want to use it as admission, contact Guest Relations at (714) 781-4000. Incomplete books have value as well.  You can redeem your unused A through E or Magic Key Coupons for a SMALL amount of money.  Guest Relations can provide more information on those rates as well.
