I’m back home from my weekend of Disney, DISney, and more DISNEY! The D23 Expo was indeed the ultimate Disney fan experience. From presentations on Disney history to Disney stars to Disney fans…and Disney UBER fans, the expo was a lot of fun and a lot of pixie dust for all in attendance.
The picture I managed to snap with my iPhone. |
My best moment, by far was when I saw the great Richard Sherman getting ready for an event. I live in L.A. and see celebrities all over town. As a tour guide, I also met many famous people. There is something about being in the presence of someone who has changed the fabric of our society–for generations–with their music that is a very different kind of famous. Richard Sherman, through the music he made with his brother, has brought joy to children and adults around the world. Everyone knows their music; their songs are the first we sing as children and the words have become part of our lexicon and
I tried to discretely take a picture with my phone of Mr. Sherman when his son (I think) asked me if I would like to take a picture with him. I didn’t want to be a bother since he is Richard Sherman for goodness sake. Mr. Sherman saw me and walked over to me. In an instant, something came over me and I started to cry. It was gratitude mixed with awe mixed with pure happiness to be in the presence of someone who had brought so much happiness to all the world.
Mr. Sherman took my hand and gently held it. He asked me why I was crying and in an absurd moment I told it was because he has made so many people happy. We had a little chat and a good laugh with one another and he have me a hug.
No, I don’t have a picture or a video, but I will never, ever forget how gently he held my hand or how I felt knowing that I was hugging an inspirational legend. Disney magic comes in all types of moments. It’s hard for me to imagine or more magical, sweet moment–one that is mine with Mr. Sherman and mine alone.
Over the next couple of weeks, I will be posting more Disney magic from Disney Junior, the Disney Parks, and more.
