Monday Must Have: pediped shoes review and giveaway

Today I am happy to review the pediped shoes. Comfort is key during those long days of walking around Disneyland and pediped shoes deliver! The pediped company was founded in 2004 by Angela and Brian Edgeworth in their quest for the perfect soft-soled shoe for their first daughter. Their commitment to quality and comfort has been recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association, Harvard Medical School, and Children’s Hospital Boston. The shoes are sold in over 3,000 stores in the U.S. in more than 120 designs for boys and girls between their three lines: Originals (soft-soled shoes for newborns to age 2), Grip ‘n’ Go (thin rubber-soled shoes for children ages 9 months to 3 years), and Flex (rubber-soled shoes for children 1 to 6 years).

I received shoes for my oldest and youngest sons. My oldest son received the Jake style Flex shoes and has been wearing them for about a month. He has some problems with his feet and long story short, he has to have shoes that have great support. He also has to have shoes to accomodate his narrow feet yet give plenty of room for his toes. He has overlapping toes (all but the big one) on both feet and we are very careful to make sure he wears shoes that give the toes enough room so they aren’t pushed together. We usually opt for wide shoes, but with the pedipeds, that is not necessary. They are quite frankly the answer to our prayers and I am just sad we didn’t discover them sooner. On top of it all, the shoes are very, very comfortable; he loves wearing them. Plus, they are stylish enough to keep up with the demands of a fashion conscious kindergartener.

What makes the pediped shoes great?

Beyond why I love the shoes because of my son’s toe problems, there’s lots more to appreciate about the shoes. The shoes are really well made and very easy to put on. The Flex shoes are exceptionally soft and flexible and provide flex zones for maximum flexibility and support natural foot motion. They also provide shock absorbing cushions on each heel to protect against impact and distribute pressure through-out the foot. And finally, perhaps what I like most is the unique fit system. Each pair comes with an additional 2mm insole to customize the fit so it just right for each child. If the child starts with both insoles, as the child’s feet grow the additional insoles may be removed to extend the length of time the child can wear the shoes. That extra 2mm really extends the life of the shoe! With three growing boys, I can use all the help I can get when it comes to stretching our money!

Baby C got the Demitri Original shoes. Unlike most baby shoes, they are really easy to put on and have kept his little feet warm during cold weather. Plus, they don’t fall off! Ever! (A plus for families who are out and about a lot. It is more than annoying to look down at baby in the stroller and see that he’s missing a shoe!) The shoes are made with a double layer of leather plus a foam pad on the soles for extra cushioning and are good indoors and out. The gray and blue of the Demitri shoe goes with just about everything and they are currently on sale for $22!

Another great thing about pediped, is that it’s a company dedicated to giving back. Since the company’s inception, pediped has given nearly $700,000 in cash and product donations to children’s charities. The company recently established the pediped Foundation to continue its mission of helping children (www.pedipedfoundation.org).

Why are pediped shoes great for trips to Disneyland?

Comfortable shoes are not just important for mom and dad, but for the kids too. pediped shoes take kids comfort to a whole new level! My older son adores these shoes and inspite of having other pairs of shoes, has not wanted to wear anything else since he got these.
Baby shoes that aren’t going to fall off! Need I say more?
The shoes are really lightweight and aren’t going to weigh down your luggage.

Any drawbacks?

pediped shoes are fabulous but there is one thing I don’t like…that my oldest son is now wearing the biggest size that pediped makes (size 13-13.5). I would just like the folks at pediped to know that I really, really wish they would consider making shoes for older children. We not only want them for my son but NEED them!
