I recently discovered one of Disney’s best kept secrets and a unique way to commemorate a Disneyland Resort visit—the Artist In Residence program. Talented artists capture the essence of beloved Disney characters daily right before guests’ eyes at select locations throughout the resort, and every month different sketches are available for purchase. You can find these exclusive creations at Off the Page, Disneyana Shop, The Disney Gallery and WonderGround Gallery.

WonderGround Gallery is a contemporary space in Downtown Disney District that is home to over 25 new artists and features one-of-a-kind pieces in a variety of styles and mediums. The artwork can be found on a selection of merchandise, including prints, t-shirts, mugs, magnets and more. Also available are art-inspired home and lifestyle products like books, picture frames, vases and art figures. Through the Artist in Residence program, a different artist calls the gallery home each month as they work on upcoming projects, create live paintings, and hold demonstrations. The Artist in Residence for September is Michelle Romo, a self-taught illustrator and designer whose influences include Japanese and Scandinavian design. She’s the creator of Crowded Teeth, a line of t-shirts, bags, accessories and stationery. Michelle will be on hand for a live performance Sept. 28-30 from 5 to 9 p.m. at WonderGround Gallery. Guests have the opportunity to meet artists Bob Elias and Katie Kelly at the Disneyana Shop in Disneyland Park on Sept. 30 during a special Artist Showcase from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bob will showcase some of his newest releases, including Mickey and Pluto, Nap Time and Best Pals. Katie Kelly will showcase some of her recent releases, including Where Dreams Come True, Lost in Wonderlandand more.
