Exclusive Interview with Disney Artist Noah (Part 2)

August 15, 2012 in All Posts, disneyland resort, interview, Randy by Lisa Robertson

The artist Noah is taking the art world and Disney fans by storm by taking classic Disney art and images and giving the a fresh spin and making the art and message of Disney appealing to even more fans than ever. Part one of the Babes In Disneyland two-part series on this dynamic artist covered Noah’s humble beginnings and his life-long relationship with Disney.

Looking to the future, Noah’s future with Disney is growing and flourishing with new collections on the horizon.

Noah’s exhibit at the 2011 D23 Expo made Disney fans more aware of him—many for the first time—and Storytellers has been extremely popular. Noah is very grateful and humbled by his success, but he’s not content to just leave things as they are.
“I’ve always had a feeling of ‘How can I go bigger? How can we make it better?’” says Noah. “The thing about Walt was that he saw things in people that they didn’t see in themselves. He took people who were good and made them great.” As a result, Noah always tries to outdo what he’s done last and surprise people.
The newest example of that is the Mavericks of Mayhem line. “Mavericks of Mayhem is taking a lot of (the) old characters–Peg Leg Pete, the Big Bad Wolf–that wouldn’t normally have a platform and gives them a chance to completely be themselves,” explains Noah. This has been a great chance for him to experiment and push the envelope really “go outside the box”, because it fits that format.
Mavericks of Mayhem is geared towards guys that love Disney, but want some really cool, edgy clothing to wear that doesn’t compromise the integrity of the Disney brand and the character. Not surprisingly, they are certainly finding their market. “It’s a similar approach to the ‘Low & Slow Car Club’ [in Cars Land],” adds Noah. “There should be a subtle nod to what it’s all about.”
During his signings and events since the line has debuted, Noah has met countless enthusiastic male fans who are happy to finally have Disney style just for them. “That was the number one thing I heard from tattoo guys, rockabilly, hotrod guys, going “Dude, I’d wear that stuff in a heartbeat.’ That was refreshing….And dude, it’s Donald Duck!”
From Mayhem to Princesses
What’s next after Mavericks of Mayhem? Noah couldn’t go into much detail but he has shared with Babes In Disneyland that he is working with Disney to develop “something for girls….Some stuff that’s going to be geared not just for teens, but for 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, that they’re going to be really excited about. [It’s going to be] girl characters, but not your typical girl stuff.”
There is no word yet on when this new line will be available, but it’s something Noah is very excited about. “I love providing something for people to look forward to,” says Noah.

The rest of 2012 is shaping up to be a big year for Noah. He just got back from an Alaskan Cruise on the Disney Wonder, where he did some live performances and was also on hand to sign his newest piece, titled Love is an Adventure.
In the Fall, Noah will be at Walt Disney World for Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival (he created the 17th Annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival Poster) at the end of September, and then will be back in Californiain December for more events. When asked Noah if that was as far as his plans go, Noah replied, “2013 is already shaping up to be a big year. We’re looking for ways to twist up the Vinyl and do something in a way it’s never been done before. Same for the art.”
The Why
One question everyone seems to want to know the answer to is why people do what they do. Noah shares, “When people make my art part of their life by buying a painting or wearing a shirt I’ve designed, I see it as the hugest honor ever. That person has chosen to make me part of their life story… I’m not in the business of making art. I’m in the business of meeting amazing, great, cool people that we share a commonality with and I’m making them happy.
“What it boils down to is how can we leverage the art and Disney’s wonderful stories and legacy to let people know that they matter?”
Connect with Noah and His Art
Noah sells Disney art through the parks and through his license with Disney for apparel, and other merchandise. Certain things you can’t get outside the parks, and some you can.
