Dreamy Disney Dates: A Downtown Disney Romance

February 17, 2012 in All Posts, dining, downtown disney by Babes in Disneyland
Since February is a great month to celebrate being in love, Chris and I figured we should celebrate it with something we both love — Disney! This time, though, we decided to stay outside of the main gates and spend the evening in Downtown Disney. The lights, music, overall ambiance, and Disney magic of the outdoor shopping and dining district invites romance to the evening. Another benefit of spending the evening there is that parking is free for three hours (or up to five, with validation)! If you’re able to spend the evening without the kids, here’s how you can create your own Downtown Disney night of romance.
Begin with drinks and dinner.
Bourbon Street Sampler

Since we had never been there before, Chris and I decided to eat at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen. This fun and fancy restaurant is inspired by the music and food of New Orleans and offers patio and indoor seating. We chose to sit in the Flambeoux Room, which was designed as a classy jazz night club. We began our dining experience with drinks, which we sipped until our dinner arrived. Since the menu is a bit more expensive than our just-graduated budgets could afford, we shared an appetizer and an entree item. I strongly recommend the Bourban Street Sampler, which came with coconut shrimp, calamari, deep fried artichoke hearts, and barbecue ribs.

Jazz Music in the Flambeoux Room

For the main course, we LOVED the New York Strip and Pommes Frites! The steak was incredibly tender and flavorful and garlic french fries were amazing.
Though the food at Ralph Brennan’s is superb, the best part of the experience is being serenaded by the Flambeoux Room entertainment — jazz! While eating, the atmosphere becomes romantic as the night’s performer sings and plays jazz songs.
Make it sweet with dessert!
Though their dessert menu looks amazing, enjoy dessert outside of Ralph Brennan’s. Instead, stop by Marceline’s Confectionery to grab a cupcake or caramel apple to share. There are so many delicious choices here, including cookies, brownies, and a ton of candy! You’re sure to find something sweet to enjoy with your sweetie. Chris and I especially like the white chocolate chip cookie.
Get a caricature drawing.
A fun way to capture the memory of an event is to take a picture together. An even more fun way to do so is by letting one of Downtown Disney’s cartoon caricature illustrators do it for you! There are several artists at carts who are available to draw you and your date in an animated way.

Walk around and enjoy the atmosphere — and each other!
With the hustle and bustle of life, it is often most enjoyable to simply take a walk with the one you love. There are often musical performers and merchandise and food carts throughout the area that add to the experience. Downtown Disney is a great place to stroll hand in hand, while immersed in lights, trees, music, fun, and romance together!
