“Doc McStuffins: Time for Your Check Up” DVD Review & Giveaway

May 20, 2013 in All Posts, disney channel, disney junior, product review by Kendra Kuske

Watching Disney Junior grow and change over the years has been quite exciting. My kiddos and I have gotten so much joy out of and each new show and keep coming back for more. One of the newest Disney Junior animated series, “Doc McStuffins,” has my three–year–old hooked. The show plays right to one of her favorite things: her love—well obsession really–for stuffed animals. It’s quite entertaining, and I especially appreciate the message of caring and compassion for others that is woven into each episode.

“Doc McStuffins” is the number one cable TV series for kids ages 2-5. It tells the story of a young girl who heals stuffed animals and broken toys out of her playhouse clinic. Doc has many friends who help her along the way including: Stuffy, an overly proud dragon; Lambie, her cuddly best friend lamb; Hallie, a jolly and caring  hippo nurse; and Chilly, a snowman who spends a lot of time getting check-ups at the clinic. Doc and her friends are always on hand to help a friend in need whether it’s finding the cure for a mystery illness, low batteries, or fixing a blow-up toy that has sprung a leak.

The most important lessons and themes in Doc McStuffins (and creator Chris Nee‘s inspiration for the show) is demystifying doctor visits, medical care and healthy living for kids. The creator was struck by the amount of doctor visits her son had when he was little and saw that there was no children’s programming normalizing this important part of childhood on any of the networks. Doc McStuffins provides parents and caregivers a starting off point for discussing good health, doctors and medical care, which can be very frightening for children.

With work and school schedules we are rarely, if ever, home in the mornings when the show is on, which is why I so love and appreciate Disney DVDs.  “Doc McStuffins: Time for Your Check Up,” is the second DVD compilation of Doc McStuffins episodes to be released and is available for purchase today. Because of the important themes and lessons offered in the Doc McStuffins episodes, I highly recommend adding this DVD to your family’s collection. The DVD is available online and at many local retailers (Target, Walmart, etc.)

One lucky Babes In Disneyland reader will receive a Doc McStuffins DVD courtesy of our friends at Disney! Simply enter below and we will announce the winner on our Facebook page when the contest comes to a close.

Both of my kids love Doc McStuffins! My almost 2-year old just loves to dance along to the song! And my 4-year old loves her magic necklace! That’s what he calls it 🙂

I have not seen the series, but from your review. I really like the message of caring and compassion. I think it is very important for children to learn those skills as early as possible.

I love that it is such a sweet show about a girl and her stuffed animals. It is great for encouraging imagination and has lots of good life lessons for toddlers/preschoolers as well.

I love that kids of both genders can enjoy watching Doc! Our friend has a young girl who loves Doc, and my munchkin (male) just fell in love with it. Such a great show!
