Fun Fact Friday: Pirates of the Caribbean

On July 24, 1966, New Orleans Square became the fist new “land” added to Disneyland since park opening, though Imagineers had been working on concepts for it since 1957. The first attraction to open in the new land was Pirates of the Caribbean. Pirates of the Caribbean opened on March 18, 1967 and was the most advanced, elaborately-themed attraction that had ever been built. Over 60 Audio Animatronic human characters, around 50 Audio Animatronic animals, and rich detail made this 16-minute attraction an instant and perennial favorite. It’s also the last attraction that Walt Disney personally supervised and oversaw....

Terrific Tip Tuesday: Disney Junior-Live on Stage! at Disney California Adventure
May 29, 2012 in All Posts, disney california adventure, Hollywood Pictures Backlot, tips for guests with special needs
Disney Junior-Live on Stage! is found on the Hollywood Pictures Backlot I love seeing family movies in a theater crowded with children. The comedic moments just get funnier and better because suddenly you’re seeing them through a child’s eyes. For that reason, I love seeing Disney Junior-Live on Stage!. It’s a real treat. There’s something enchanting about hearing the collective gasp of children as they see their favorite characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Handy Manny and Little Einsteins come to life. My children and I were both wide-eyed the first time we saw...
Character Dining Review: Goofy’s Kitchen
May 28, 2012 in All Posts, character dining, characters, dining, disneyland hotel, vacation planning
While I love and appreciate each of the character dining options and the extra magic they each add to my Disneyland Resort visits, Goofy’s Kitchen will always be nearest and dearest to my heart. Over the years I’ve had so many amazing experiences and interactions that Goofy’s now feels like my home away from home while on vacation.Goofy’s Kitchen is located just off the lobby of the Disneyland Hotel. You do not have to be a hotel guest to dine there, making it an excellent option for those staying at a neighboring hotel, or even when taking a day...
A girl can have many passions, right? Yes? Great! Well, aside from photography, my passion is food! Reading about it, making it and especially eating it! I recently had the distinct honor of attending a preview of the new Cars Land, opening June 15th at Disney California Adventure park. Out of all of the incredible new experiences ahead, I am most excited about the food I sampled. Let me tell you, folks, the culinary delights on this road trip are definitely worth stopping for! It all starts back when John Lassater was on a trip with his family along the...
DCA Fast Facts: The design, stores, restaurants and entertainment of Buena Vista Street
in All Posts, buena vista street, entertainment, fun facts, shopping tips
Of all of the things premiering next month at Disney California Adventure park, I am really looking forward to seeing Buena Vista Street. Buena Vista Street is actually named after the REAL street that runs along side the actual Disney Studios in beautiful Burbank, California. I drive on this street almost every day. In fact, the hospital room I stayed in at St. Joseph’s Hospital after the birth of my second son overlooked Buena Vista Street and the Disney Studio. I can’t wait to see the reimagining of a street I travel on so frequently. At Disney California Adventure...
Top 5: Disneyland Food Craved at Home (Plus Recipes!)
May 24, 2012 in All Posts, dining, disneyland, recipes, restaurant tips, Tips & Tricks for Families, Top 5
Leaving Disneyland is sad — we all know that. Even if your feet hurt, your kids are asleep, and your wallet is a bit lighter, leaving the magic behind stings a little. When real, post Disney vay-cay life begins, it is easy to day dream right back to the happiest place. If you’re anything like me, you may also find yourself day dreaming on your lunch break, wishing you could return for just one more bite of (insert favorite Disney food here). With the help of our Facebook followers, and my grumbling stomach, here are the top five most...
Disney’s Mother’s Day Royal Buffet Makes Mom Queen for a Day
May 22, 2012 in All Posts, character dining, dining, disneyland hotel, motherhood
One of the best things about being a relatively new mom is getting a whole day specifically to celebrate the privilege of parenting my wild, funny and sweet little boy, Mason. The road to becoming parents was not an easy one for us, and every day raising him brings its own challenges, surprises and—more than anything—incredible rewards. After almost two years of motherhood, I truly understand the meaning of Mother’s Day and wanted to do something special to celebrate with my family, especially my own mom, this year. Being the Disney-loving family of “foodies” that we are, brunch at...
Traveling to Disneyland: Fly or Drive?
May 21, 2012 in All Posts, babies & toddlers, Jessica, Tips & Tricks for Families, Travel Tips
His first plane ride – sacked out to the sweet lull of a jet engine. We took my son, Liam, to Disneyland for the first time when he was four months old, then at ten months, one year, two years old, and we’re headed back this summer for his fifth trip and his sister’s first. The first few times we went, more than I was worried about how he would act in the parks, I was worried about getting there. I’d always imagine the worst case scenarios; like having to listen to my screaming child for 16 hours in the...

Meet my daddy, Mitch! On Sunday, June 17, we all get the opportunity celebrate the amazing men in our lives.
