Based on the success of the Glow with the Show integration at Disney California Adventure’s World of Color show, Disneyland has added the technology to Fantasmic!, adding audience participation to the show that just celebrated its 20thanniversary. Anyone who already has Glow with the Show Mickey ears can now bring them to both parks!
Disneyland offered Annual Passholders the opportunity to see the Glow with the Show activation on Tuesday, August 28th, prior to the August 31st premiere to the public – an opportunity that couldn’t be passed up!
As I’ve mentioned before in my 20th Anniversary Fantasmic! post, this show is by far one of my favorites of all I’ve seen. Despite the late event time (10 p.m. – Midnight), I knew I wanted to see the show with all my fellow APs and proudly wore my Glow with the Show ears, so I visited the Main Entrance Ticket Booth and got my RSVP.
On event day, my three friends and I grabbed a wristband at the ticket booths. The event began at 10 p.m. with the show scheduled to begin at 11:30 p.m. By the time I arrived at the Parks at 8 p.m., plenty of APs had already claimed their spots near the Rivers of America for optimal viewing of Fantasmic! Many people brought blankets, while others explored New Orleans Square, Frontierland and Adventureland for the specialty foods and drinks on hand for the Glow with the Show event. I opted to try the Fantasmic Pumpkin Fritters from the Royal Street Veranda – a reminder that Fall is just around the corner. They tasted like a pumpkin donut!
My friends and I found a space near the River Belle Café, which gave us an expansive view of all the APs lined up along the river with their Mickey ears fully glowing. The show began and a hush fell over the crowd as the familiar music began to play and everyone’s Mickey ears coordinated with the show. Needless to say, the ears brought a refreshing new element – it was fun to watch!
