To say I am a little excited for “Cinderella” is like saying I’ve been to Disneyland “a couple of times.” (For the record, I’ve logged in more than 1,000 days.) As I have mentioned before, this movie is a big deal for me. In fact, I’ve told my husband that “Cinderella” is my “Star Wars.” Stop. Don’t get me wrong, I am SUPER EXCITED for Star Wars. For heaven’s sake, I recently bought the new Dooney and Bourke Star Wars purse! That being said, “Cinderella” has me crazy excited. For those of you who don’t know, on March 13, Disney is releasing a live-action “Cinderella” feature starring Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden, Stellan Skarsgård, Holliday Grainger, Sophie McShera, Derek Jacobi and Helena Bonham-Carter. If haven’t seen the first trailer, do yourself a favor and take a moment. (Warning: You won’t be able to watch it just once.)
Today a second trailer came out and now I’m even more giddy!
There are three main reasons I am crazy excited for “Cinderella.”
- First, as much as I adore my other two favorite fairy tales (“Peter Pan” and “Snow White”), “Cinderella” is the ultimate princess fairy tale. I don’t know about you, but as a little girl, I dreamed of having glass slippers and the big dress. The pure fantasy of the Fairy Godmother turning the pumpkin into a coach and the mice and horse into footmen and the noble steeds to pull the coach, is fairy tale magic at its best. And the romance… oh the romance. Sure it’s a bit outdated, but it’s still dreamy. “Cinderella,” both back when I was a child and now, is a total and complete escape from reality into another world where love, romance and the under dog get what they deserve. Plus, you just know the clothes are going to be AMAZING! It’s cool if I wear a tiara to the movie, right?
- The second reason I seriously cannot WAIT to see “Cinderella” is because I am a super, crazy Downton Abbey fan. Like such a huge fan that I go to great lengths so that I can stream it from England when it airs months before it premieres in the U.S. each year. Lily James (Lady Rose on Downton) and Sophie McShera (Daisy on Downton) both star in the film which means I get to see two of my favorite women from the show in new roles. Although I don’t see the the Cinderella role being too different from James’ role as Lady Mary–both are sweet, sensitive and caring–McShera’s role as one of Cinderella’s stepsisters couldn’t be any more different than the role she plays on Downton as the often flustered and unsure assistant cook to Mrs. Patmore. Getting to see McShera play something new and different is so exciting, and I can’t wait to see her scowl and pout her way onto the screen and show her evil side.
- Last, but not least, I am really looking forward to Frozen Forever, the featurette that will come before “Cinderella.” I’m not ashamed to say that I love Frozen and can’t wait for some extra Frozen fun at the theater.
