In the wake of my article on Disneyland’s new Pirates League, I’ve received questions about this incredible experience Disneyland is now offering. Here are my tips for making the most Pirates League.
What ages are best for Pirates League?
Pirates League is great for kids ages 3 and up. I think instead of thinking in terms of a child’s age, one should consider the child’s interests and loves. Pirates League is great for children’s who love pirates (obviously) and do a lot of imaginative play. In the case of my children, my older two boys not only engage in a lot of imaginative role play, but really enjoy dressing up in costumes. We knew that while the boys may be a bit shy while undergoing their transformation that they would love it all the same.
What should children wear to Pirates League?
The day we attended the Pirates League, it was really, really hot, so we opted for shorts and t-shirts for the boys. Had it been cooler, we would have definitely dressed the boys in pirate costumes. Like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, costumes are available for purchase, but if you have one from home, children can wear them.
It is also important to keep in mind that your child will have makeup applied. While the pirates stylists won’t get any makeup on your child, you child likely will get some on his clothing if he transfers it to his hands and he wipes them on his shirt or shorts.
Also keep in mind what comes with each of the packages. For example, a head scarf is provided for all of the different packages so your child need not bring his pirate hat from home.
When is the best time of day to go to the Pirates League?
In my opinion, because Pirates League is a splurge, I think kids should have their makeovers done as early as possible so that they can enjoy the rewards of being a pirate for as much time as possible. Reservations can be made by calling (714) 781-STYLE.
Extra Tips
- If your child will be going to the Pirates League as part of your family’s over-night vacation, don’t forget to bring makeup remover! I used make up removing cloths plus a liquid remover on a cotton ball.
- If your child has sensitive eyes or you are worried about getting all of that eyeliner off, ask the stylist to not apply the eyeliner too close to the edge of the lids (bottom and top). One of my children had liner a little under the eye where as my other son had liner right up under the eye. It was a little difficult to get off and since he had to go to school the next day, I really wanted to make sure I got it all off.
- A Photopass photographer will be available to take your child’s photos, but if you don’t plan on buying the Photopass pictures, you will definitely want to take a ton of your own. Definitely don’t forget your still camera and video camera. You’ll also want to document all of the fun your child has in the park after the pirate transformation.
- Bring a backpack or bag in which you can carry your child’s pirate oath. You won’t want it to get smashed in a regular shopping bag.
