If you’re headed to Disney California Adventure and plan to visit Flo’s V8 Cafe in Carsland – take note: the lunch and dinner menu have undergone some changes! The roasted chicken and barbecue items are no longer on the menu and have been replaced with the following:
Pit Stop Classics (with choice of steak fries or fresh fruit)
- Ka-Cheeseburger
- Ramone’s Low and Slow Club
- Fin-tastic Tuna Sandwich
Drive In Dishes
- Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken
- Cobb de Ville Salad
- Fillmore’s Pot Pie (a friend’s meal, pictured left)
I stopped into Flo’s V8 Cafe to check out these changes (effective as of May 2018). One of the Babes in Disneyland team’s favorite dishes is the fried chicken dinner over at The Plaza Inn in Disneyland, so when we heard that Flo’s V8 Cafe was going to offer a fried chicken meal, we were curious if it would be comparable to the Disneyland version. As for the kid’s menu, it doesn’t look like the items have changed, but as a refresher, here is what is offered for guests aged 3-9.
All of these meals are served with fresh fruit, baby carrots, and choice of small low-fat milk or small Dasani water (Minute Maid juice box or Nesquik Chocolate Milk is available upon request):
- Micro Burger
- Chicken Fenders
- Mack’s Mac & Cheese
- Taillight Turkey Slider
Our Review: Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken
For $16.99 (Annual Pass discounts do apply), my plate of Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken meal came with four pieces of chicken (breast, thigh, small wing, small drumstick), seasonal vegetables (steamed broccoli and cauliflower), and roasted garlic mashed potatoes with gravy. This is quite a big portion for lunch and is the most expensive item on the menu (most other dishes are $10.99). The roasted mashed potatoes and gravy and seasonal vegetables make this feel more like a meal and less like fast-casual dining, which is nice. The big question of the day is – how does the fried chicken compare to the Plaza Inn?
The chicken was crispy and had more of a peppery flavor than the Plaza Inn fried chicken. I also felt like the batter wasn’t as thick as the Plaza Inn, but it did not taste like a dish that was “heated up” and served. However, the Plaza Inn fried chicken meal also includes a biscuit, and it’s a nice touch to add on extra biscuits or be able to ask for an extra side of gravy when you decide to split the plate. Overall, it was a nice option if you’re looking for a heartier dish to hold you over during your trip to the Disneyland Resort.
If you’re looking to celebrate all things fried chicken at The Disneyland Resort, you can join the inaugural Fried Chicken Celebration happening July 6-9 (July 6 is also National Fried Chicken Day!) and compare the Plaza Inn Fried Chicken to Flo’s V8 new chicken dish. You can express your love for this fried dish by joining the conversation on social media with the hashtag #FriedChickenCelebration.
